I've always just done this since elementary school but yes I co-sign having female friends. Aside from the obvious joys of friendship you will learn a lot about women and other girls will see that the opposite s***is comfortable and safe around you lol.

Had some female friends in the past but they either moved away or simply stopped talking to me. Quite frustrating given that I can get along with women well in a friendly manner but I have no idea where to meet any of them nowadays.
Hardly any of my friends have their own female friends too so that makes things even more difficult

Yeah I went through a period during high school where I was a little awkward around women but otherwise I've always thought they made for great friends and I learned a lot being around them. I did English and Psychology in college and 70%+ of those departments was made up of women.
Right now I'd say I have maybe 6 friends I could hang out with in a given week and 3 of them are women, my wife included. It's a good balance.
