Irving's outie has been manipulating the severance barrier since before S1E1 and we saw him successfully bleed information to the innie during ORTBO.

Severance is strong enough to create competent workers, but it fails in others and Lumon is too blind to see this. They were wrong about reintegration and they'll likely be wrong here too
