objectively kendrick would not be doing these numbers without drake beef as promo and u know that. come on lol

But Kendrick does numbers without Drake. That is the counterargument.

Objectively you can’t say that as a fact because Mr morale deliberately had no mainstream appeal, it was just the album he felt like making. You can’t say Kendrick couldn’t have made another damn. with a hit attatched to it on the level of humble if he didn’t feel like it

yeah he does numbers w rihanna instead lol

point being u know drake being involved is putting more eyes on these kendrick tracks. the simple truth is the most commercial success he's had since DAMN is w these drake disses. i mean that's just objectively true.

It was intentionally a personal album with no hits? This much so obvious. It’s a better album than damn for most people who actually care about his music and if he wanted to make another album on the scale of damn he could, not like us proves this

I agree the beef has helped his numbers but y’all leave out the fact that it’s Kendrick. Both of their names hold weight

Do you think if Drake was beefing with Benny The Butcher he’d do the same numbers as Kendrick? Obviously not, The same way the Drake x Push beef didn’t magically make Push a much bigger artist

not like us does not prove that lol. u cant deny that it being a drake diss is a HUGE factor in the amt of streams it has, right? maybe kendrick could still come up w a hit just off the strength of the music but he hasn't shown us that.

Because when an artist I like is accused of something awful I wouldn't ignore it. I'm always conscious of who I support and if Drake really touched her I wouldn't be his darkest angel

He hasn’t shown us that because he has literally displayed that he has no intention lol. If you think he doesn’t have the capacity to drop another song like humble just because Drake is a shell of his former self and cant make a hit to save his life you’re crazy. Point to one song on Mr morale that felt like he tried and failed at making a hit

They constantly need Kendrick to do s*** he has done. Until he does it and then they change the metric and he crushes it again.

Yeah just watch. He gonna drop another hit that has nothing to do with Drake and they gonna flip into “He only got that hit because of the Drake beef, If that never happened it wouldn’t be a hit”

nobody is saying kendrick isn't a big artist in his own right. he has hits. he has a legacy. obviously dude's music has a lot of merit to it.

but his last album flopped. he hasn't had a hit or even a big feature since damn (7 years ago). that's not a diss, there's nothing wrong w transitioning to boring serious music once u get old, in fact it's kind of respectable. but the truth is kendrick's days as a hitmaker had been over for years before this beef, and it's been the only thing to boost his numbers since damn (7 years ago).

its silly to pretend that drake being the subject of the diss isn't boosting kendrick's numbers and u know that.

    Is Honestly Nevermind a flop?

i think flop means it didn't meet expectations by a wide margin.

considering it was a surprise release w zero expectations, it's kind of hard to say. i guess u could say there was a theoretical expectation amongst drake fans that if drake did a surprise drop, it would still do like 300k first week. HN only did 200k first week, so i guess in that sense it's kind of a flop.

but if HN is only kind of a flop, morale is the real deal.

of course he had the ability to make hits on his own in the past. he could possibly still have that ability today. but to pretend that any of these disses are just like a regular hit song is absurd. obviously their numbers are inflated from drake being involved. i think to use them as an example of kendrick making a hit on his own is pretty blatantly disingenuous.

Morale is a weird ass album that didn’t have any hits to carry it, That’s why it only did 300k. But it still managed to have the biggest (solo) tour in all of hip hop. People still love Kendrick and his name still holds enough power to do that

But if we gonna talk about needing other people to get hits. Can you tell me the last few Drake hits?
