The last point is super strange to me. They are not his characters so how does he have control over that?

He's the same guy who went over Hamada to get Cavill, it's not out of the realm of possibility. Remember the reports of the Hawkman spin-off coming from Seven Bucks and DC?

Although that isn't happening, it seems like he had some sort of say over which characters appear before James and Peter took control.

This one just looks awfully bland, and the slate being cleaned by Gunn doesn't make me want to view it much more either.
