Warm and smooth, sounds wide, drums have good impact and presence in the mix, and Zay's vocals sits nicely in the middle with good clarity without being too upfront or buried. Also noticed the volume has to be turned up every time the album comes on to match the level of say a Meek track
No. Every album should be engineered in a way that executes the artists’ vision
It does prove just how important post-production is in the artistic progress though. PUNK should’ve been mixed in a similar way if Thug wanted to bring about a raw sound.

I much prefer it to be like THIB than compressed to the moon and back with fart 808's
RT you got a point though, I'm just saying number of rap albums nowadays got questionable engineering. But like you said Punk could've benefited so much more had it been mixed like this

WLR has an amazing mix and it’s heavy on both the low and high end
Also fart 808s are just terrible production. Engineers can rarely save that s***. It’s up to good engineers to do such

Tru WLR was interesting in that regard, but my point of this thread was THIB was just mixed so perfectly. Since a lot of music nowadays sound so bright and overwhelming, this album felt refreshing...

The reason that it’s fresh is that it’s unique and distinctive. Having such a standard be followed in a materialistic manner would tarnish that uniquety as it’s copied. The philosophy behind incorporation into the artistic process instead of simply looking for a clean/loud mix for the sake of it is a far more stable and lasting approach
You wouldn’t want everything to taste like your favorite food, would you?

You're right
It could just be the same scenario with Dre's 2001 where all the rappers of that time wanted a similar mix style and instead ruined their own music, when it simply wasn't meant to sound like that. Same thing could happen with THIB
it’s dust or it’s trash idk but yea should not be the standard lol
Thanks for the input DoctorBoner!
Nothing really outstanding about the mixing on THIB tbh
