Contrary to what people constantly think; your brain is nearly 100% developed by the time you reach 18 years old. It's the few years after that form your pre-frontal cortex that have an effect on judgement and your brain is fully developed. So, honestly no. Why would you raise the age of consent? By 18 you are pretty close to being a full-grown adult.

I do think that it should be considered statutory rape if you are 19/20 and she is 16/17, that is where it gets creepy.

I understand the intention in wanting to this but no. Like mentioned on page 1 it creates a whole new set of problems. And honestly a 20 year old is not much different mentally from an 18 year old so if you were gonna go that route you’d basically have to raise it to like 22-23 to make a genuine statement & even if you did this it’s not going to stop 18-20 year olds from doing wherever they want and again, just causing a s*** load of problems.

Will never understand how people mid 20s+ can date anyone 18-19 though. Consenting adults are consenting adults ofc but it’s still weird to me. I’m 28, I’d say my youngest associates are 19, and I legit cannot look at them in a way other than associate/friendship and even genuine friendship is a reach. our mentalities are completely different and it’s blatantly obvious the difference. The older you get you start to change a lot more with what you want in a partner, at least for me, and with that comes the fact you will only get that from people around your age or slightly older. From my brains POV I can’t understand dating anyone significantly younger.

Yeah... that s*** is just weird. It seems like a really difficult part of the law to enforce. There is a huge grey area, where these people who are f***ing are probably peers and it’s hard to draw a line.

The brain still isn’t fully developed at those ages is the problem. I definitely know younger people significantly more mature than people older than me, but at those ages your brain still processes things differently, you comprehend things different, and you’re a lot more naive in thought. That’s something I realize reflecting from me being 18 to me being 28. I consider myself to have been a pretty mature 18 year old in a lot of aspects, but I can say there were absolutely areas where I was naive and processed things in a much different way than I would now and wouldn’t be able to. Things that would have set me up to be taken advantage of, etc. There is still a power gap that exists regardless of maturity. That’s probably why a 30 year old with a 40 year old makes more sense to me than a 29 year old with a 18-19 year old if that makes any sense

Like if you're 18 you can consent up to someone who's 24/25 but no further. When you're 21 you're allowed to give full consent to anyone.

Nah, that definitely makes a lot of sense. There were definitely times when I was completely out of my mind over a relationship in my teens, and you’re right... it is pretty much just from lack of context and experience. It is definitely something that could be exploited.

You have it completely backwards. The entire argument is that they aren’t psychologically developed enough to legally consent to sex. It is a protection from predatory older people (men 90% of the time let’s be honest).

I was taken advantage of by a woman in her 30's when I was 18 and it still bothers me 6 years later.

That sucks. I wasn’t trying to downplay the fact that women do perpetrate this type of s***, but it is definitely more common that an older man is preying on young women.

There is 100% a double standard involved with older women and young men.
