The motherfuckin Coup.
One of my favorite rap groups of all time, this music was a HUGE part of my childhood. In specifics, my pop had their ‘94 Genocide and Juice album + their collab with Dead Prez (who are practically like family to my folks frfr).
Arguably they have one of the greatest discographies in music. from Kill My Landlord. Genocide & Juice, Steal This Album, Party Music, Pick a Bigger Weapon, to Sorry To Bother You there is not one skip.
headed by Boots Riley, Pam The Funkstress (RIP) and E-Roc they covered a lot of different topics while still having amazing production.
tell your teacher I said princesses are evil
how they got all they money was they killed people
if somebody hit you hit em back
then negotiate a peace contract
A beautiful song dedicated to boots’ daughter and very early in the “pro women” raps without being overly judgemental or respectability politics.
This song has had a nigga shed tears lol
One of the funniest hip hop songs you ever will hear.
They even got luv songs for that ass.
All in all, love how as overly political they are, they also didn’t forget to make sure you can bump that s***. Songs like these have had me dancing on many an isolated occassion.
Shoutout to the Coup man.
