There's probably an argument to be made for Chad to an extent, but his case would be much stronger if he didn't quit producing for so long and actually spoke up when they were a known duo. This new case brings up all of these allegations when Pharrell isn't having the best PR right now. He's going at Pharrell for awhile too, and it's never really gone in his favor.

Yeah true but this is more about classification, because for large part of the neptunes pharrell was a songwriter posing as a producer, whereas chad was always a composer / producer doing what that role requires. He never posed as songwriter terms of lyrics and melody hooks because that’s not his domain. Remember the Neptunes are known as a production duo.

I’m not arguing anything. Im educating since the insinuation here was that Pharrell was some sort of sit in the corner “make it darker” type nigga and not a full fledge producer as one half of the Neptunes. Something Chad himself has made clear on several occasions. This insinuation is made in an attempt to buffer the idea that Chad is some how The Neptunes and thus, is justified in his pursuit of recuperation for his work and make no mistake about it, Chad deserves whatever fair compensation he is due but he deserves it as one half of the Neptunes, not some hidden ghost producer that was locked in a cage sweating secretly making all the beats while Pharrell did the interviews and f***ed all the hoes.

Chad was instrumental (and instrumental literally) in the Neptunes sound and so was Pharrell. That’s beside the point.

I think Chad is a music nerd. He loves gear a lot, and I think he more or less shied away from mainstream success and somewhat hip-hop scene after the Neptunes golden era. It’s also documented that he slowed down to focus on family.

His independent production has plenty of gems especially in regards to Kenna.

Pharrell is a mainstream tour de force over decades and the separator between them is really that he’s a frontman, ambassador, and a salesman of his celebrity in addition to the music.

All that said, there’s no Neptunes movement without them both and Chad is entitled to his contributions.

A good example is Chad doing the horns on Kanye’s “Problematic”….like to the average person it’s dressing on the beat or the synths on “drop it like it’s hot” but man that’s Chad’s genius is those tasteful sounds especially on bridges.

As much as I like Pharrell’s production, it just doesn’t hold a candle to his collaborations with Chad. Sometimes I don’t wanna listen to the same 808s, I want color
