Kill Bill as one film is one of his best. The perfect encapsulation of him totally indulging in all of his sensibilities and interests while crafting one of his most emotionally engaging stories. Jackie Brown is fantastic but it’s the “overrated” boring choice at this point for his best. People confuse its relative restraint and focus on middle aged relationships as it being more sophisticated. It’s certainly top 5, but I agree with QT when he says “if you think Jackie Brown is my best, you don’t get or like my work”. Obviously there’s exceptions to this, but I think this is generally true.

I agree that Kill Bill is among his best for sure.

I still haven't watched OUATIH, i'll get around to it one of these days. Tarantino has just lost his allure to me over the past few years. I dont think he's bad or anything, I just don't anticipate his stuff or regard his films the way I did a few years ago. There's so much other stuff that takes up my attention.

But i still think highly of Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, and Death Proof. I feel like i can watch those at any time and be satisfied.

neither of those last 2 are touching Basterds, bro

Basterds is towards the bottom for me. Still great tho. Hollywood is a perfect reflective distillation of everything he’s all about. Death Proof is similar but in a more focused genre mode where he’s playing those elements straight. It’s one of his most “mature” and beautifully directed films. Basterds peaks in its opening scene.

I think you really should get around to OUATIH. It’s totally worth it.

Yeah it’s an excellent movie, but it does feel more so than any of his other films to be simply a collection of good scenes stitched together. It lacks a bit of the flow the rest have. Even Django for how overstuffed it is has this buddy adventure quality that moves us from moment to moment naturally.

Yeah the ending is classic. Fidelio's right that it all feels a bit disjointed though, especially the third act. Like there was some s*** missing.

I agree too but I can't help but think that it doesn't matter that much in the long run to me. Many Tarantino films feel a bit disjointed imo aside from maybe Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction (even though that's def a bit longwindend. not to knock it tho).
