Objectively speaking, there’s no way y’all d*** eating an album like Scorpion and seriously thinking that s*** wasn’t bloated as f*** and painfully insecure with the “mob boss” persona because his kid got outed
Honestly Nevermind is just directionless dance music. Even if you listened to other afrohouse artists like Black Coffee or Robin M, you can see how much more dynamic and layered their music is compared to that album. Even Bonobos homage to afrohouse on his 2nd last record was just far more intricate musically. Also Drake is objectively a bad singer (not to say all his singing songs are bad but this album needed his voice to add a layer to the skeletal music) so his voice adds nothing. Passionfruit is better than anything on HN and most would agree with that (they’d only maybe pick the 21 collab song over it if they just don’t like drake on that energy)
Don’t even get me started on CLB
I could go on and on. There’s no merit to the music from views onward
haah u mad
the whole "drake must be making everything up when he raps abt crime" cope is so weird. like why r u so convinced a dude w this many yrs in the music industry has no contact w the criminal world? anyone who ever worked in music can tell u the proximity to crime, a lot of money comes from criminal activity..

I agree with a lot of criticisms about Drake’s output post-2015, but using the word “objectively” over and over again when talking about music doesn’t make you right lmao
No such thing as objectivity when discussing the quality of art
I listen to Scorpion recently and that side A might be one of the most introspective drake we’ve ever got! The slander Scorpion gets makes no sense to me

Think most people just prefer his pre-2015 singing style/tone, that’s around it started becoming more of what it is today
What was original title of thread? Why’d someone change it lol
URL always has the original title

I believe subjectivity typically applies to the sound or musical style of an artist. Someone can say they have never found drake to be an interesting artist in any way and that would be a subjective take. However, I definitely think you can objectively speak towards the respective output of an artist and compare how their work sounds compared to their peers. I think objectively, it’s pretty obvious Scorpion is a bloated mess considering even the biggest of drake Stans would admit they’re not running that album front to back (not that a stans opinion should ever matter). And objectively speaking, drake didn’t do anything new on Honestly Nevermind that afrohouse artists haven’t been doing for decades so it’s completely valid to see why it falls short when understanding why the sound worked so much better for those artists.

I'm not reading all that.
I'm sorry you're not a dog, or happy you're barking.

whining about your favorite rapper not getting some unilateral street cred from anonymous online forumers >>>>

Where you see a bloated mess on Scorpion, another person may see a great album where they love most of the songs.
I agree with you that the album is a bloated mess, but you’d only come to that conclusion if you don’t like most of the songs, which is a subjective opinion

I find it weird how the street raps get so deep under peoples skin this much. Like I've seen some of the same people complain about it for years.
They just need to:

Drake is a nice guy, he's not like that.

this video is ancient
obviously drake wasn't on the corner before he blew up. im saying it's entirely likely he started f***ing w the crime s*** after making it. a huge chunk of the money that flows thru the music industry comes from criminal activity, music and crime are super closely connected

Kleinfeld in carlitos way hung around gangsters and killed people too
Doesn't make him real or valid

look all im saying is drake's criminal lines are nowhere near as ridiculous and fantastical as haters say. it's just weird to me that u guys find it absolutely inconceivable that someone in the music industry could have connections w the criminal world.
at the end of the day it's obviously a cope, and a strange one for that.

Not a cope. Drake is playing a role. I still enjoy the music
