    raps

Whats the game theyre playing vs the underground rappers lol

id say that underground rap is like ufc/boxing while mainstream is damn near wwe. theres way more theatrics at play and much more to master in order to win that game

    Outperformed his last album too

    "outperformed his last album"

8 years since his last album and 47k of his 123k sales was bundles u know what 123k - 47k is? 76k

you know what testing did? 75k

but we give rocky passes for his mediocrity constantly

The thing is, we can be nuanced.

Is Iceman Drake's best album this decade? Probably so. Are there still hella problems that this decade Drake has had that has made this album do the opposite of grow on me? Sure. The overreliance on metaphor/similes lead to some stinkers. Also mainly why Habibti (which used to be my fav of the 3 albums) is not getting as much listens as it used to.

But yeah, Janice STFU and Shabang are both the biggest hits of that album and proof that Drake can be creative and fun when he pushed into it.

At ze same time. Certain people on this site that wanna hype some s*** up just because it's different and not really because of the quality of what the different s*** is, aren't really being honest.

MIKE and Earl's collab album was cool. Great even, showed them doing some versatility and changing up their style. I'm not personally mad at anyone saying that they liked Pompeii over Iceman.

Everything else? Nope. Rocky's album was honestly all over the place and a mess. The loooooooong hiatus raised expectations to a place he wouldn't reach and we got...a mess of an album. A mess/sequenced weirdly album is not innovation. Zaywop's album was better than THIB but still suffers from the "hey i'ma whisper" isms that bro just keeps doing. Vince's rock album was very low effort to me which hurts to say because he's been one of my fav consistent artists for the last decade plus.

I just feel like overall a lot of rappers are just phoning it in this year. Especially cause rn my favorite albums this year are coming from GENA, Kelela, and underscores

S*** did 78 million streams first week 😭 and 76k in 2026 is pretty big, this also presupposes that all bundle sales don’t translate at all to audience investment and reach in any sense like every single one is invalid?? It’s the 4th highest selling rap album to come out this year and it went #1 on billboard 200 with a very well performing tour.

If u gotta crunch numbers to say something flopped it’s like factually not a flop ur argument would just be it’s not a top of the line smash hit. Even with bundles not many people r cracking 100k

being the 4th biggest rap album in the year where rap is the weakest is like being the tallest midget bro

smartest thing rocky did was make the entire aesthetic black and white with the t shirts. don't get me wrong theres some songs i like from it and i saw him live at gov ball and it was dope live!

but brah janice stfu is better than every single song rocky has lowkey ever made

I agree ab the last part, I’m saying the s*** that a traditional rap fan would even appeal to to seperate Drake from other artists hes not like doing the best on that album anyway except being catchy and pleasant to the ears which if that’s what matters the most to you then fair but drake fans won’t just own that the issue is they act like it’s way more than it is. It’s okay to jsut say I like it the most cuz it sounds good and I can play it a lot but this whole superiority thing anbout him being the hope of rap keeping competition alive way above the rest isn’t even apt.

I was saying those projects excel at things, have their own identity, and aren’t nearly as flawed and predictable. It’s been awful is still traditional, sir render is a drumless project thru and thru but they undeniably excel at aspects iceman doesn’t cuz iceman doesn’t really excel at one thing except being a decent drake album. My claim is not that they are novel lol U can just disagree w me about one or the other idk why ur getting caught up on arguing the preference u have of every single project I think is better than it as I said the point is it ain’t better than EVERY album u could think of unless you just really don’t value writing, consistency, novelty or authenticity at all in ur rap music like nobody who has iceman at their #1 says it’s cuz it’s rly good at one thing they always appeal to social factors.

That’s factually not a flop lol those things don’t translate to album sales and again it’s still one of the best performing records of the year, actually p sure not being present at all in 8 entire years esp in covid era isn’t the best for ur commercial performance dawg lol again other ppl do bundles but cracking 100k is NOT common unless ur a really big rapper and every bundle sale isn’t just an invalid reflection of audience investment esp in the streaming era where numbers are insanely deflated. Again he literally had the #1 album in the country aswell and is on a well performing tour.

Idk why I’m even arguing ab this anyway as if album sales even matter to the quality of the music

  • Guys u don’t get it he’s so above the rest he dropped an ass album, a forgettable one no one talks about and a commercially successful inconsistent one with bad writing and some catchy radio tunes perfectly in his comfort zone he’s sooo above the competition he’s really the king of this s*** nobody can touch him omg he’s keeping the genre alive
