I never listened to UK rappers like that before fam. Do they all get down like this?
If so we gon send Lil Flip to end this UK vs USA debate
Don’t even need to send our real spitters
Skepta is considered mediocre amongst grime MCs, when they rap
Look at all the corny Europeans that liked this horrible post

Obscene levels of delusion and I've been listening to grime MCs for ages lol
The thing that alot of UK rappers fail to understand, is that while they're very impressive rappers from a pure rapping and technical standpoint, oftentimes the rap music itself that they make is pretty ass.
Yes, it is cool the way they find these pockets in order to flow over their production, speaking mostly in regards to grime. But that doesn't change the fact that people (unless they from the UK) aren't tryna hear rap beats that sound like they came from f***in Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, or Street Fighter arcade machines. Though I will give the producers and DJs props for that kinda creativity in their production. I also love video game music so I was able to rock with the 8-bit and 16-bit video game sounding grime beats.
It goes back to the NY Drill vs UK Drill debate. Yes, the UK Drill artists are better technical rappers. But the NY Drill artists sound so much better on that production. It's a reason why AXL was frequently lacing Pop Smoke with heat and why NY took that UK Drill sound and got it really popping

well grime isnt rap music and never has been. grime MCs dont call themselves rappers because grime developed independant of rap music, grime MCing and clashes are inspired from similar roots kinda to rap but its not the same lineage at all, it comes from the fact grime is also an electronic subgenre and scene. Its a different genre. its a bit disrespectful to like a whole lineage of culture to say this but i know its a common misconception.

Grime is literally just British niggas trying to rap lol

Clash and a battle are the same thing. It’s like saying chips and crisps are different
Grime is literally just British niggas trying to rap lol
this is factually wrong, its like saying toasting and rapping is the same thing. the way grime MCs MC was developed independantly from influence directly from carribean culture's MCing the same way hip hop partially took influence from it, except rapping itself has a history deep in american history while grime is very deep into carribean music and british electronic music.
Thats the reason they call it a clash, and not a battle. these were carribean immigrants mixed with british electronic music, the beats are literally a pre existing electronic genre. The reason their flows sound odd is because its a dif form of MCing. what skepta does NOW is rapping, but he used to be a grime MC

there’s a reason we call it clashes and not battles and it’s because what they’re doing aligns more with dancehall clashes than it does with American battles
But American battles and grime clashes both reduce from that
So there’s a similarity obviously

It’s all the same s***.
In grime music, a clash is a head-to-head lyrical battle between two or more MCs (rappers). It's a competition where MCs showcase their lyrical skills, wordplay, and stage presence, aiming to outdo each other with clever insults, boasts, and witty rhymes. These clashes are a core part of grime culture and can be seen as a way for artists to prove their dominance and establish their reputatio

the things emphasized and what matters in grime clashes and the setting is different though. but they are the one thing ill say is incredibly similar ill give you that because they draw from the same base influence of dancehall clashes
the difference is clashes are way less about who has the best bars as it is about who gets the crowd hotter.

Toasting is just Jamaican niggas rapping
Trust me, y'all be making it deeper than it need to be

You get the crowd hotter by having the best bars, delivery, insult, etc.
lol it’s the same s*** man. They just call it a clash because in the UK they were pretty much all Caribbeans whereas in the US they had a mix of Caribbeans, Latinos and Black Americans so they just called it something else but in practice it’s the same thing.
They say boots, we say cleats. They say chips, we say fries, they say clash, we say battle

not even. again these clashes would occur in raves and electronic spaces, a lot of it is just flow. if you look at a lot of grime MCs their bars and lyrical ability is actually incredibly elementary for the time,
the reason for that is someone like wiley in 04 was not primarily concerned with writing an impressive song w good bars
He’s primarily concerned with writing danceable music
He rhymes garage with garage like 17 times in this song lol

“not even. again these clashes would occur in raves and electronic spaces,”
You could say the same about early rap battles
Niggas rapping over house/disco beats or beats that evolved from that genre

just ignored the main point ok

Because you’re trying to act like it’s some wildly different thing to seem more cultured.

I stopped reading this after "grime isn't rap music"
Because you’re trying to act like it’s some wildly different thing to seem more cultured.
no your just ignoring history. you can say it sounds similar but its different things. go to any of those artists back then or most big grime fans they know you cant judge a scene developed out of a completely seperate lineage that prioritizes dif things with its own distinct culture by the metrics of an american one that sounds similar.
