people started using leng (attractive & from patois) and then some chinese people were claiming black Brits were appropriating cantonese.
the first time I heard "leng" I was like hold on they use the same word for pretty in patois?Since I know some CantonesePeople really trying to claim appropriation though? There's bigger fights than that.. Any time before 2010s and both parties would be laughing that they coincidentally have the same/similar word.

leng in patois is gun but people kinda flipped in london cos it’s like peng but i’m pretty sure it was west or east london that started using it like that first
