think this would be the best place to ask as im pretty unfamiliar, but do any of yall know where I can find songs with this feeling? melancholy, depressing, deep piano, slow/sad sounding, but still peaceful. any artist, just looking for more of this sound.

Slums are the best cure

(second half of this - Every Minute)

Gonna post this here too cause it's great and deserves some more eyes. Single, produced by Paul White, off NAPPYNAPPA's new album dropping Friday. Album also has Sporting Life credited.

Yoooo the merch is too clean
ok sry for ranting but rym forcing hypnagogic/vaporwave on MIKE, SOTC and others in the scene is so revisionist and cursed to me
like look up the first sentence description of hypnagogic on wiki: "psychedelic music that evokes cultural memory and nostalgia for the popular entertainment of the past (principally the 1980s)." in what world is that what slums are doing
this scene has zero interest in popular (white) media and the 80s.....
They literally just connect it for the chopping and screwing which obviously vaporwave took from C&S... It's so backwards.
Kinda feel like it's time to counter this bs with something more accurate tbh. I thought of something like Pan-African Rap maybe, the flag is probably the one thing which connects all of these artists. Something to describe the murky and glitchy style and common theme of depression would also be good though. Black Empowerment Blues
p late to this but it's so random but awesome to me Siifu, Liv.e and Lord Byron formed a rap group to make a memphis tribute
it actually slaps so hard tho

!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHE9VIarZMkBasically follow this thread and you'll find new tracks like that every other day
(tbf what you shared is from one of the strongest projects, but the overall vibe you describe def applies to most rappers in this scene)
artists in the title are a good starting point. In op there's also a rym list I made and update with essential projects from this scene to check out
Yo what the hell who is this guy? Got an album entirely produced by Navy w/ feats by Da$h, WifiGawd, Wiki, Siifu, Anakin

Dog... Ankhlejohn is fire. Project is f***ing bananas
Had to look around how to even get hold of this, apparently he's selling Dropbox links 20 a piece lol

Navy x AnkhleJohn, What a weird collab

this is how I discovered all of them
siifu verses stood out and I found my way to ensley
not a mephis but more throwback to the swisha house dallas/houston underground scene where liv.e and byron and both from

I thought so too, but the two singles convinced me otherwise
I much prefer Ankhlejohn over Navy's smooth/soulful/mellow production than the stuff on Van Ghost for example
He and Navy are interesting opposites to me

lol that's tight
also thx for the correction(?) I'm not an expert when it comes to the South, rym tagged it memphis and I could see a similarity to Three 6 for sure, but it's true they're actually from Houston. Isn't Solange also from Houston but takes a lot of influence from Memphis anyway? I guess the styles bleed into each other ?
going through Navy's EPs pre-From The Heart rn
pretty rough/lo-fi but very lovable as always
this one sounds a bit like King Krule cloud rap

yo finally got around to this and yea this is big fire
new to Ankhle but rly impressed by his presence and flow(!), plus Navy rly brought his A game for this. Like this is already comparable to me to what Earl did for Mach on Fete lowkey, just reached extra deep into his bag for those big gifts

Yes! City of God is one of the best intros I've heard this year. Features were perfect, Navy killed it, album is tight. The rest of his work I've heard is really dark/grimy, so the Navy prod here was a welcomed complement
