Everybody I’ve played Mike’s music for has absolutely hated it and laughed at me,even my sisters
@marcusg Lord Byron got another new one, inspired by Farrakhan and Lynch's Elephant Man 🤔 still haven't peeped that other Fyodor album from earlier this year, both look interesting tho

Jesus that’s an interesting combination of influences
Ima peep !
MIKE albums never really grab me, especially on first listen, and I feel like it’s the same w this one
Some very nice moments—like Big Love, Aww (Zaza), Babyvillain, at thirst sight, Spiral/Disco—but I feel like a majority of it didn’t really compel me a ton. It might be a grower, like his albums usually are for me, but not in love w it after 3 full listens.
I do like the direction his production is going, between this, WOTW, and his work under djblackpower. Speaking of which, would not mind him producing albums for others, like Navy or Mavi or whoever.

ngl literally every rl friend I've been showing MIKE too gave me this.
Not hating necessarily but just not caring at all lol, frustrating af
only other person I've met outside who's really enthusiastic about him is the other German dude I met at the Slauson / MIKE show in London lol. Tight to me how many peeps on ktt (and increasingly rym) f*** with him though
I guess my lil bro sorta thinks he's ok too
on repeat listens Babyvillain is a 12/10 tbh, that second half is something else
peak MIKE

Not everyone is an underground head / counter culture, as far as music goes
I made a remix to the disco outro just because that last part is probably one of the loops I’ve heard in a minute.

Most of my friends actually appreciate weird s*** usually though, that's what throws me off. Some of them find him too weird but some also find him boring. Just not enough love for hip-hop in general in my circle sadly..
Was a bit surprised to see the near instant and overwhelming praise in here for this one. Definitely been way more of a grower for me. Considered it more on the muted and inaccessible side at first and wasnt really feeling it.
That stretch from Big Love - Endgame is really great. The whole thing flows perfectly and there are some brilliant transitions.
Center City, World Market and Sandra were a bit forgettable to me. And didnt think Sideshow added much at all on Alarmed. Airdrop too is a weird kinda hold-music beat that I aint really feeling. Vocals can really swing between clear and muddy on a lot of these tracks too, especially with his delivery.
Crystal Ball works a lot more for me in the context of the album. Ghoulish and Frogville are both very strange but work for the most part. Leaders of Tomorrow is really beautiful, especially that intro, great sample.
Biggest highlights for me were Big Love, addictive hook on that. Zaza - flow is amazing. Babyvillain - incredible, top tier MIKE track, Pogo-esque vibes with the sampling. Endgame and Tailwind are both really special too.
Definitely grown on me a lot. Largely very cohesive and good to see him trying new things with his style of writing, flows and production. We take experimental to mean abrasive often but here he really strips some of these samples back in an interesting direction that you gotta appreciate even if it might not work 100%, like in Ghoulish.
Not gonna topple TOJ or WIMP for me, but its another really good and interesting release that I'm appreciating more and more with each listen.
