white ass rym of course does this. Giving this s*** a sub-genre name is the worst thing you can do to the craft.
"drumless" sounds dumb asf
"damn drumless genre I guess outkast were really ahead of their time"
yeah something like "neo-boom bap" wouldn't be bad to describe that whole Marci, Griselda, Alchemist lane. Though honestly you could also just call it boom bap it's not like it's that neo
that particular strain of experimental, glitchy production MIKE is doing still needs a name tbh
it's called hip hop bro.
putting a name on a type of music cause of production puts that s*** in such a box.
And yes, I think 'lo-fi' is a dumbass name too lol. It's hip hop.

!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXSNm5glHvkCertain songs by Rick Ross, Kanye, Kendrick etc. really were the future
Roc Marciano & MF Doom the drumless prophets LMAO
They only added the drum less tag to sound more sophisticated in their music taste and alienate a sound because the brand of just hip hop seems too general to them not knowing that does the sound a disservice because artists making the music refer to their music as hip hop and it’s an insult to the diversity of the genre. In basic terms pretentious white fans with a self importance complex want to coin a term for exclusiveness to be different I guess
They’d be mad as f*** if we called something like indietronica as “sugar electronic” or some s***
White people weird with genres like wtf is idm??? Intelligent dance music, is there a stupid dance music out there as well? Dance music got a degree or something?

Especially since no snare rap songs aint new at all n been around since at least the 90s
Underground AND MAINSTREAM
Niggas like Justice League & Madlib etc. BEEN had beats popping without snares or even kicks, just bass & instruments or rappers like Roc Marciano & Retchy P lol not to mention some songs on Yeezus, TPAB, Cherry Bomb etc. You gonna start chopping albums into individual genres now as well?
So dumb, especially since its been a regular thing. Such a needless differentiation đź’€

It’s just elitism that really runs this circles tbh they wanna be able to say created a term to feel validated in their taste like who says something needs drums in order to be hip hop? Hip hop was built on rhythm and poetry drums isn’t the main driving factor. That’s like me going to a producer and saying “you can’t make house music because you live in a apartment”

S*** is od stupid, one of the reasons i never got into that site nor crowd đź’€
Luckily i grew up with this s*** n come from a rap oriented city so i can talk about this s*** irl n otherways without a place like that thank god.

It can be good for finding new music but I’ll never go to that site to have my opinion curated on s*** they we grew up listening too from folks who come from shoegaze and alt rock backgrounds and got into rap about 2 years ago trying to create meaningless labels in a already inclusive genre
I think it's just to give this thread a proper name cause sLUms doesn't encapsulate all of the artists discussed here

Alc said once to not call it boom bap or 90's inspired. Even though it is rooted in it, it's a whole different thing.
