shoegaze was a term used derogatorily at first but the genre ended up being known as that too
Aphex Twin also hated IDM (which I'm pretty sure was coined to describe his music) and preferred "braindance" but that didn't catch on lol. Honestly IDM just sounds cool as an acronym I tend to ignore it's supposed to be "intelligent"

same w krautrock, something ppl actually tried to call out others on using

I know you can’t really hurt any group of white people’s feelings with a slur but krautrock has always been kind of foul, haha
Wrote a longer post about this where I phrased it as a question but deleted it because I think it’s pretty undeniable: SRS is the 808s & Heartbreak of underground rap, as far as how divisive it was and how influential it’s been.
facts.
what you said in your first point is the big thing I think. Ka and Marci etc have been doing this but Earl inspired a way younger generation to follow step tbh.
And that in turn through people like MIKE inspired even more even younger people and made it this movement I'm pretty sure
anyhow I wouldn't want this to go down same way it happened to shoegaze, idm or other names that artists themselves didn't universally agree on. I guess you need something cool for that tho, like death metal and s***
still, the idea of ppl 'mumble-rapping' underground rap is hilarious the more I think about it

I'm German and I think everyone here (after a couple years) kinda rolled with it lol, we think it's funny. Nowadays no one would consider it derogatory
wrote an essay in highschool about how it's lowkey Germany's most significant contribution to music of the past 50 years still lowkey stand behind that
btw Sauerkraut is lowkey underrated

SRS definitely actualized those ideas you could find on early MIKE, sixpress and pink siifu projects. dont think it was as present in the genre before that. earl wasn't the first (or maybe he was if we count idls) but he made it so there's the before and after to this sound

yeah krautrock and early electronica (berlin school progressive etc) kinda went hand-in-hand, very fruitful time
lowkey Can being my fav German band does have a correlation with Damo Suzuki not singing in German tbh
yall gave us Kraftwerk too
just looked this up on rym surprised to see that the first Kraftwerk releases are actually considered krautrock as well

“East” is one of the most important songs in modern hip-hop. There’s no correct answer, but underground rap is a question of whether you like that song or not.
Camden malik just dropped a 40 something long mixtape. This song with Navy Blue fye

Love krautrock and love when its influence shows in the music of Radiohead, Stereolab, Boredoms, Mount Kimbie, Darkside, even that latest SOTC track?
Seeing Faust perform IV this week
