Damn just heard Frank Dorrey played on NTS after Photographic Memories, didn't expect that at all.
His sc is full of gems tbh binged that last weekend, brings a lot of Carti influence + 454-like pitching and off-beat experimentation to this sound

That Lungz & Mimz thread led me to Mimz' solo catalog, then to Semira Truth. She's dope and from Chicago.

this is the best news of all time
We need more color lowkey one of the dopest tracks ive heard. Tapping into that vibe plus hendrix guitar s***. Its over for these b**** ass niggas
Thx for stopping by but wrong thread for uncalled for negativity
Although I'm a fan of Siifu's work I have to call him out when he's talking out of his rear end. Miles and Jimi were not planning to make an album together and if they were why would his next music be whatever that was supposed to be. He just comes off pretentious saying that.
RIP Mtume

!https://youtu.be/4OLqid9RABs?t=750I think he's saying he is striving to create a sound inbetween the two. Don't know how that is pretentious.

!https://youtu.be/4OLqid9RABs?t=750it'a well known fact fam "Davis said in his 1990 autobiography that he sometimes jammed with Hendrix at his New York apartment, but finances and busy schedules prevented them from entering the studio. Hendrix biographer Charles Shaar Murray and others say Davis sought $50,000 up front for the session. Davis also wrote in his book that he and arranger Gil Evans were in Europe planning to record with Hendrix at the time of guitarist’s death in London."
also it's not like he's saying he's gonna play guitar like Hendrix and trumpet like Miles lol just saying he finds it inspiring to imagine what that would sound like and trying to find a sound which would fit that imagination. Don't see anything pretentious in that. Ambitious? For sure, but not that.
After seeing him live and witnessing the incredible musicianship of his band there isn't much I'm putting past him tbh. Was both probably one of the best jazz gigs I've witnessed, while still blending punk, noise, rap in there. But felt like jazz primarily, which I didn't expect coming into it tbh.
In fact Gil Evans and Hendrix already were in the studio together and got Mati Klarwein to make artwork for that album, which was never finished

!https://youtu.be/4OLqid9RABs?t=750Is the concept of ambition and vision lost on you
And isnt a music fact that jimi miles and paul mccartney were all tryna get together for an album at one point.
Beyond that, Its common knowledge that miles and jimi played together before jimi’s death.

My opinion was formed based on what Siifu was quoted as saying and yes to say your new music will be the what Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis was supposed to create is in my opinion pretentious. Is it also ambitious sure, can Siifu make what that music would have sounded like I don't know. That is the reason why him saying what he said the way he said it comes off as pretentious to me.
His matter-of-factness on being able to make that music does come off as ego driven. I commend his confidence though and he is a great artist. I would have rathered he worded what he meant a little differently.
Here are the two quotes from Miles autobiography which still do not dispute Mtume's claim. Although they did jam together which the world hasn't heard, and they played around with the idea of making a record together. By the time they were supposed to sit down and flesh that out Jimi was dead. The main thing Jimi asked of Miles was to help him with getting jazz musicians for a band.
" Jimi liked what had done on Kind of Blue and some other stuff and wanted to add more jazz elements to what he was doing"
"Jimi Hendrix was there, too. He and I were supposed to get together in London after the concert to talk about an album we had finally decided to do together. We had come close once to doing one with the producer Alan Douglas, but the money wasn't right or we were too busy to get it together. We had played a lot with each other at my house, just jamming. We thought that maybe the time was right to do something together on a record."
I just want to add as I saw it mentioned here multiple times. I am not hating on neither trying to be negative towards Siifu. I met him and hung around him on numerous occasions and many of my friends that do music are also his friends.
I have been going to see him perform live going back to 2016-2017 back when him and Amani would perform together a lot in LA and NY. I still laugh to this day about the dance off Siifu and Mndsgn had at bar after b. Cool- aid did a show with Nolan the Ninja in queens.
I may reach out to our mutuals and have them send him his thread. I'm sure Siifu would just laugh and say Suede always take what I say too serious.

that's cool
personally ya I think you take it too serious lol. I think the way he was quoted in the magazine makes it sound more matter-of-fact than he said it probably, think it was quite likely more of a playful hits blunt type statement
this nigga siifu has blossomed into a full on genius. i couldn’t had imagined that he’d put out two more absolutely amazing projects (NEGRO, GUMBO, i thought flysiifu was just alright tbh) post-ensley
