Snippet sucks. He really was just doing whatever around this time. Probably the most unfocused he’s been musically before the real downfall began.

  • This album was going to be underwhelming. There’s probably a good reason why it was shelved

He was much more locked in in 2015 than he is now

I’d rather have this than unfinished slop he releases on streaming services now

    Locked in in what way

well he actually cared about making albums then

the demos he used to throw out then as previews were still generational songs like wolves and don’t jump

now he just gets dave blunts to do ai refs for him about his wife being with other men

I mean sure, but this was still a wildly unfocused era, probably the most unfocused of his prime years. Multiple sounds, multiple ideas, multiple concepts, none of them really sticking.

The stuff that he let us hear was pretty good/great but there’s like a whole 2 year period post-Yeezus to Summer of 2015 where it’s just a mess.

Yeezus 2 had some pretty good songs tho

God Level, Southside Serenade, The Mind is Powerful, Tell Your Friends, I Feel Like That just to name a few

and i think early 2015 is where he was finally forming those demos into a more finished album and felt like it was ready to drop to the point we had multiple singles which is why it’s interesting

why it got delayed and changed into swish who knows but the songs we do know were on it are some of his best leaks

it feels like a whole diff situation to now where he’ll just half finish something, drop it and then leave it for months or years (Donda 2 and Bully)

I don’t disagree! And you can add more to that too. The first time I heard the low quality Special snippet I thought I was about to hear the greatest album of all-time, there’s a lot of great stuff from that era, but in comparison to all the music he made in that era, I think it’s few and far between.

Now I know that can be said about any era and to judge an era based off it’s unreleased music is silly, but that’s also not really what I’m doing. As much as I like some of that stuff, I acknowledge that it doesn’t fit well together. Post-Yeezus he was making trap music, then he worked with Paul, then he was making darker songs, then brighter songs, and while I enjoy the parts, I’m not convinced the sum would’ve been all that good.

Hopefully I end up being wrong, but based on the snippet… Ehh.

I mean you could say the same for TLOP but then you listen to it and it all just works

It’s basically the beginning of late-stage Ye and led us to where we are now but you can feel so much more passion for the music and a way higher standard of quality that only shows up once, maybe twice an album now

“fundraiser” was cancelled due to lack of donations

maybe one day in the future it will be offered again but for the time being the community is currently more interested in CUCK songs
