smooth brain try hard memefication of everything in rap culture
this thread for example
be like water my friend
hip hop good
the current sound is just getting stale
compare a beat from 1990 to 2000 and it's a different genre
compare a beat from 2000 to 2010 and it's a different genre
compare a beat from 2013 to 2023 and you probably couldn't tell the difference aside from maybe some more elaborate song structure (which you can thank Travis Scott and probably Mike Dean for making trap beats progressive)
in all irony the lack of centralized media has really crippled momentum towards new sounds and styles; people without direction often wander where they're familiar
it'll change up soon though. watch Drake spit on a Neptunes or DJ Premier sounding track and people will d***ride it to high heavens and everyone will contort themselves to the new paradigm

There is def a major diff between 2013 and 2023

Ehhh you can tell a 2013 beat apart from a 2023 beat lol

Been saying the part about compare beats from two different years in another decade to post 2013 lol
It’s like s*** stopped advancing and the producers can only do so much cuz the rappers the one who pick the beats
Ehhh you can tell a 2013 beat apart from a 2023 beat lol
this is Chief Keef which is shawty Redd lol
Lil Uzi literally has a remake of Thug first album from ten years ago coming soon lol
People have turned Keef Future Thug Fat Gucci Carti into subconscious musical deities and we are frozen in their respective peaks musically lol

Ok but this is cherry picking. For the most part a 2023 beat still has way more to it than a 2013 beat. People still rapped on Boi-1da & mustard type beats back then. 2013 is pretty much right after the lex Luger era and a little before the metro boomin era. I’d say Mike will made it was the biggest producer at the time but just getting started. The sound def has changed allot but the blueprint is still being utilized, yes. You could compare it to sampled beats and drums in the 90’s and the fairly simplistic drum styles of the 2000’s.
Idk tldr: I think there’s been enough change since 2013 in production

i get what you mean about 2013-2023 fs bro. i thought about this last year comparing 2012-2022…not much has changed man it’s just variation in production tbh

yeah agreed, it’s definitely evolved but relative to the other decades it’s not early as drastic of a change
i’m not ashamed to parrot what everybody else has been saying when it comes to the death of monoculture because it’s true. if you’re an observant person and old enough to have some hair on your balls, then you know that s*** hasn’t really progressed when it comes to mainstream music. it’s just one big circle of old ideas that are tossed around with a new coat of paint.
why go out of your way to listen to new music when the algorithm can feed it to you? it’s pretty sad to say, but it’s true. people are comfortable with being complacent and once they experience that, they’re not gonna be willing to explore what’s around them

it’s kind of eerie tbh

this is how things tend to play out unfortunately
when something new comes out early iterations are drastic because it's like a space race and theres more room for innovation
and then things become stable
its like how we havent seen an exciting iPhone upgrade in a minute

it goes back to the idea of complacency really and i get it…if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
but just because it ain’t broke doesn’t mean it ain’t rusty
if i had enough time and patience, i’d go on a schizo thread about the current state of music and just culture in general…i have so much on my mind rn

yeah i'm definitely with you
just need something to break this Trap foundation we've been in since 2010 and then things can progress again, Drill not gonna do it because Drill wasn't even a new thing itself

do it!
