yeah she's at goldsmiths rn and her maturity as an artist is sooooo blatant between the first song, which just came out, and Allen street which has been out for a while. not that it's rawness isn't what makes it so endearing

yeah man like the other poster said i think the naivety is sorta a huge part of it . its like retrospective looking at screengrabs from harmony korine movies-core. nothing too cerebreal going on its just kinda an experience/identity to glom onto (dont mean that disparagingly).
like the music they're drawing so heavily at the time was a time capsule of a certain era which was actually current when that stuff was made so it was a snapshot polaroid of the times.
whereas this is like wearing a costume & doing a performance of those times when things where at least percievably more simple its like a nostalgia daydream of a time you didnt get exprience so there's no need for heady introspection which is still a valid expression it on itself.

yeah, that leaning into nostalgia for a time you didn't live in while trying to maintain a naivety and innocence in your consciously curated image is what frustrates me. It's like having your t*** out for no reason in a depop product photo for a vintage XXXL NBA finals t shirt: sure why not, but really, for what?

i think its pretty much for forlorned youths to have a time portal to a period they desperately wish they could experience & in a way its the next best thing. not to discredit the individual artists as justlike some sort of pastiche mimic cover band they seem like they all have talent & good taste. i just think its probably what people have always been doing with fashion but for music

yeah man thats the most challenging thing for me, because I'm as guilty of indulging in that forlornness as anyone else. but there's a difference between cosplay, and identifying cultural thread lines to make sense of your own self-identity and relationship to society as an influenced artist. that's usually what makes or breaks a creative across any medium for me

guess we'd have to wait n see its just fun to speculate cus both groups are relatively early in their careers i wonder how such nostalgia leaning based acts mature
