Need advice on how to go about this.
It’s a busy First Friday here in my downtown area. There’s cars and motorcycles zoomin around looking for parking….
Then this cat waltzes up, can’t be more than 10 lbs easy, must be somewhere around the age that you can go buy a kitten at the store. Maybe like 2 months or so.
I paced around wondering what I wanted to do. It’s not uncommon to see a stray cat running around my block, but this one was just a baby and it was too busy of a night for me to turn a blind eye.
I take the cat inside.
I took my flea comb to it. One swipe and I can tell it’s gonna be a long night. Each flea gets dunked into a half hot water half dish soap concoction passed down thru generations. The ears were a little dirty too so I took a baby wipe to them. I continue combing for fleas until I can’t anymore. I’m sure there’s another one hiding, I could see one hiding in this lil baby’s armpit and the kitten wasn’t too happy about me extending its leg out.
Anyways, I moved Link’s litter box out of the bathroom and right now the little angel is sleeping on the towel on the floor.
That’s another thing, Link has turned into mean kitty. He even hissed at me cuz I think he could smell the kitty on me.
Any advice? Will they ever be able to be friends? Should I take the lil thing to the SPCA or keep it and take it to my vet?
Of course I’ve kinda grown attached to it now 🤦🏻♂️
Would have to feed two mouths now 🤦🏻♂️
Would have to get shots and stuff 🤦🏻♂️
so you have a cat it really depends. obviously you just came home with it so it's a little territorial. but if you do end up keeping it just monitor them slowly. I heard its always best to keep them somewhat separated at first and for them to just smell each other through doors and such.
I have two, but they were adopted together and brothers, but I think it's really great for socialization. Especially when I'm not at home.
Now, I do have a friend whom adopted a second cat around a year after his first. She obviously was a little angry at first but she seemed to warm up to him. He is a kitten too. Thing is, I've gone to his place since and she seems to have lost weight since he got adopted. Apparently the new (since he's a kitten) will never leave her alone. Like she'll climb on my friend to just rest or whatever and the kitten will come and just f*** around so she'll leave.
It seems like she never gets the attention she used to. Not intentially my friend loves her, but he can tell her mood has changed since the adoption.
Also though my friend lives in a student dorm so they're somewhat more confined depending on the day. That could be an issue for them as well. Space.
If you do end up keeping it just make sure your other cat doesn't feel neglected.
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I’ve taken in multiple strays bro they get along eventually just ease them into it like keep them in separate rooms for a day or two. let one out and put the other one up to get used to their scents around the house, etc…

Yeah he’s an absolute MESS rn. He’s hissing at me from across the room 😂
I’d love to keep it. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to try and see how things go.
I work tomorrow morning but I think I’ll come in later instead and take the cat to a vet
I'm going to assume Link is your own cat?
Yes! Named after the savior of Hyrule 🤓
If this is a girl cat I very may well name her Zelda…..boy? idk yet

Awww 😍 Youre an awesome person @op Youve gotten some good advise in thread so far. Def a good idea to bring kitty to the vet. I cant give much advise, as Ive never been in this situation but I hope your cat gets used to the baby so you can keep him/her.

Damn u a good person bro
Been Walkin different since a couple days ago on my morning commute someone hit a deer a few cars up from me and we all just went around it 😔
Whole time since I been thinking like what do you even do in that situation….call animal control?
I couldn’t leave this little angel alone. It’s so busy here I didn’t even wanna leave to go to Publix cuz I was afraid someone might park in my parking spot.
And I’ve seen a cat get run over too many times 🥺 once when I was a jit and one time last year that hit me deep

it could be a great thing. they could be besties. another thing too is my friends cat is a girl and the kitten is a boy so maybe things are a bit different if they were two boys.
Yeah I’d read a ton online about closed door introductions for cats
It can take weeks
Some cats esp males who aren’t socialized w other cats as kittens will never like other cats tbh
my cat hates cats

The baby kitten is sleeping soundly in the bathroom…..which also happens to be one of Links most favorite lounging areas so I’m sure he’s taking that well
I played with link for a few minutes. Then tried to pet him and he flipped again from the scent.
Please God let these cats coexist

Yaya just read on closed door intros… Jackson Galaxy has a ton of stuff on his website
It gets… betterish
When I tried (keyword tried) to adopt a second cat my cat kept freaking out on me for the first day and hissing and being rly upsetti
He was still mad but not AS mad after that fiest day
We had to give the cat back to the adoption people after like 3 weeks of Trying tho our cat still wanted to kill him 😅😅

😥😥😥 well, it is what it is. My mom might possibly take it in if things don’t work out
Obvi I wanted to keep both but idk I didn’t really feel like it was likely for our cat to ever stop hating the poor baby
And I’d rather have 1 happy cat then two miserable ones
🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲 feels a lil unfair to both
But I hope sincerely ur cat accepts the other one
U can definitely look into giving it to some sort of adoption or rescue group or something otherwise tho I think :((((
