right i think it’s mostly views and pablo propping up 2016. i was going crazy to pick up the phone that summer tho
there were def some big albums that year, no denying that.
Why 2016 and not 2015? @op
2015 was probably the most stacked year in terms of quality hiphop albums I’ve ever experienced
Either/or
this feels like the first pre-pandemic year we've gotten post-pandemic
Saying this because artists are dropping music and distributing product is crazy
You need to experience life

we are literally talking about rap nigga
idk in retrospect that beef was exhausting and really took up a lot space.
I’d wait till this summer before I make a judgment. Gonna be hard to top 2021 imo

2016 is when a lot of new rap fans started listening tbh but 2015 and 2018 clear

Idk how do we even gauge that tho when more people started listening lol
For me I’ve been listening to hiphop since I was young I don’t remember a moment where I was like wow this genre is catching my attention let me tune in now

Exactly.
Good disses can't make up for quality albums.
We really have to see the output for the rest of the year before we make that call.
We Don't Trust You is a good album but a step down from Heroes and Villains and that'd be more evident if it weren't for the beef.
Vultures was okay at best, carried by beats and Ty's vocals.
21's album was so uneventful, I literally have to remind myself that it exists.
INSANO was only alright and a mild disappointment.
Schoolboy's album is top tier. Everybody Can't Go by Benny is also good but was a bit derivative.
Paisely Dreams was nostalgia sample bait with some decent raps here and there. Big Hit was a weak link on that album though.
I thought the Yeat album was alright but nobody talks about it anymore.
Might Delete Later was mid, even with 7 Minute Drill removed.
I feel like the beef is causing people to overrated how good the output has been so far.
People here have nostalgia for the "Big 3" and were happy to see them finally step into the battle ring but that can't make up for how "average" the output has been so far in rap this year. Good diss songs =/= good albums.
Billy Woods dropped Maps on May 5th last year and that's easily better than most albums from this year. And Scaring The Hoes is better than most albums from this year too.
And I swear....Kendrick better drop this year now that all eyes are on him like Pac.
