Will never understand the reasoning behind SZA not dropping after Good Days. That song was everywhere and not capitalizing on its success is a huge fumble

She had Hit Different, Good Days and the snippet of the song that played in the music video, and I Hate U....and at every point they ignored the hype those songs generated and didn't capitalize

TDE is what happens when you leave it up to the artists to release their music just saying

Yall gotta stop blaming Punch when it’s documented that SZA is an indecisive self-saboteur that they had to fight to drop CTRL.

We’re more than likely never getting another album from her, gotta come to peace with that.

I’m trynna get signed to TDE tbh. I don’t like recording or dropping music like that anyway

Their release strategy might have worked well in 2012 but in 2022 it’s a complete and utter failure and is bordering on artist sabotage at this point.

Lance Skiiiwalker has f***ed off to nowhere even though he had potential

They can’t market Zacari for s*** with his great voice

Isaiah and SZA clearly hate the label

Kendrick left because he hates the label

    Q basically retired

Soul and Rock have f***ed off to nowhere as well

Ray Vaughn and REASON are ass

    It’s over

TDE messed up their business model early on by trying to take Strange Music's business model without understanding why it actually worked. They relied on outsourced major label resources/joint-ventures for almost all of their artists and now they're in a s***ty situation where almost all the artists realize they got a questionable deal if most of the resources are coming from the major label but they're still subject to cross-approval from TDE (i.e. SZA). At this point they're glorified outsourced A&R and it's no wonder they have terrible scheduling or planning when they don't even fully control their own releases and at best do like half-management, but half their roster is signed to a variety of different labels The reason other "artist labels" like Dreamville don't have this issue is everyone on Dreamville is signed to Interscope. TDE doesn't have this. They have some of their roster on Interscope, some of RCA, Isaiah is on WMG, Doechii is Capitol, Reason is with Caroline for some reason, and some like Soul aren't on any labels at all

Zacari isn't on a major either which is why he's barely gone anywhere. SIR & SZA are on RCA which is why they've had more "full" successes and schedules by comparison.

    Cant pick

Kendrick left and they gave up

Kendrick probably had one of the worst deals in the industry, he was simultaneously signed to TDE, Aftermath, and Interscope. Mr Morale was released by all of these simultaneously + pgLand. He's probably happy as hell to get out of TDE so there's one less label taking a royalty cut.

they definitely are because like all of their artists probably realize wtf are they even doing on TDE when they're all cross-signed with actual major labels doing the work for them

Hope Isaiah leaves TDE too, should either go indie, Dreamville, or sign to Grand Hustle. Basically places where he’ll actually get treated properly and not seen as another pawn

he's signed a deal WMG/Warner Records (probably why in part THIB did much better than his past albums by comparison). at this point TDE is just eating his royalties until his contract expires with them.

That’s why for most artists there like you implied, there’s zero point in them being with TDE. It’s not like 2012 where they’re seen as a “stimulus” and top/Punch is another hassle since they give the artists a green light for album drops.

I have no idea wtf is taking Soulo and Rock too long to drop their music, TDE been acting very strange as of late. Like are they basically the modern day Atlantic?

  • Aug 29, 2022

Punch focused on his own rap career & group now lol

Soul isn't on a label but Jay is on Interscope. For Soul it's probably just a mix of life stuff on his end, them reserving space for new artists, and then trouble scheduling because they have obligations for releases for those actually signed to major labels contractually. No idea about Jay but he's signed to Interscope so he's going to have to drop eventually for that alone

Soul needs to hurry tf up and drop something at least by end of this year, him taking 6 years in between DWTW and upcoming album isn’t a good look.

I’m genuinely surprised Rock is taking THIS long considering his interscope deal. They’re f***ing idiots for not capitalizing on his hype and making him drop something shortly after (or maybe even just go on a feature run).
