The way he did the documentary was weird in that he talked about saving i'm guessing his best for the fall off, and didn't really mention the off season. So is this just a hold over album until then or what? Its weird because it made me a little less hype for this one.

Yes it appears this is to hold us over until the fall off drops beause he still has to tweak the fall off and finish it. but from what i can tell its not just a throaway because he said he was putting his all into both projects

Im personally still waiting for him to drop a classic. But it was strange to put that in there seeing as this should be the album hes currently promoting. But yet...after he said kod was gonna be a classic Im glad its tempering expectations.

drake basically does the same thing. announces views years ahead, then drops a "playlist"/"mixtape"/project before the actual album

He was working on both at the same time. Off-season was always meant to be the mixtape before the fall off. It just turned into something else

Yeah I get that but seeing that its an album now. I dont get why he didnt just save the documentary for later. Under normal circumstances this just kills momentum for the current project. But J cole has a strong enough fanbase where most wont care. Its kinda works out if the music is mid for some reason.
