I dunno about the "elimination of Drake," but this whole thing seems to have led to the elimination of Vietbrah. Genuinely asking, what happened there?

Like, did he just completely leave the site when things turned sour? What about Zack?

Whole situation is quite odd to me.

they act like someone died lol

concerning behavior considering they trolled everyone else on here for about three years

Posts like this are mad disingenuous. When Drake was churning out hits like a machine, the narrative was always "all he does is make hits," "his albums are never good bodies of work," etc. Now, y'all are making it seem like he NEEDS hits to survive.

It's funny you're going back to Scorpion — an album era whose success would be impossible for ANYBODY to replicate. In case you haven't noticed, ALL of hip-hop has been on a commercial decline this decade. The reason why it seems like Drake has been the most affected is because he's been the biggest artist in the game for a long time. This narrative that he "stopped making hits" is a lie that needs to stop being spread. His songs might no longer live in the top 10 like they used to, but that's really because streaming for hip-hop has regressed to the mean since it's boom from 2015-2019 and so now, rap songs are more reliant on radio to remain stable on the charts (something that's hard to manage because pop radio remains the biggest radio format and remains committed to only playing rap songs that are by like Jack Harlow or something). Even if a rap song does really well on Urban/Rhythmic radio (both formats that Drake DOMINATES), it'll peak quick and quickly start to lose whatever audience impressions it has. You now have country songs, pop songs and afro-beat songs pulling massive streams and all of that is eating out of the streaming pie that rap once owned damn near outright and that's made pop radio more important than ever for a song's stability.

There are countless Drake singles from this decade which are multi-platinum eligible despite only spending a week or a few weeks in the top 10 so it's not that he stopped making hits. It's that his hits simply aren't sticking like they used to and that goes for damn near everyone in rap.

Drake is judged on an entirely different standard compared to everyone else in the game and you have to take that into consideration when having these discussions. You have people calling For All the Dogs a flop but it's already outsold Utopia despite being released almost 3 months later and debuting with less units because it's remained steady in its consumption. It's already the bestselling rap album released in 2023. But that's a "bust" to some of you.

Unfortunately, Drake is at the point in his career where it doesn't matter what he does. People are sick of him and it's not because his music is terrible. He's still one of the best musicians in rap. People are just tired of seeing him dominate so he can drop his best album ever and you'll see people fail to acknowledge its greatness simply because they don't like him and they'll nitpick his lyrics to find things to be offended by to justify their disdain for him (something they don't do for anyone else).

My advice to him isn't to rush back and release another album right now. He should refrain from releasing any new music at all and just continue his tour by playing Europe and other markets. After touring every market he wants, he can disappear for a few months and make people realise how important his music has been in their lives for the last 15 years. Until there's a huge public thirst for new music from him, nothing he drops (regardless of how good it is) will move the needle enough.

dope post, even though most of these hating bums dont deserves replies of that quality tbh

I was more so referring to Kendrick having die hard fans who are ALSO fans of Drake openly.

What I've noticed especially on here is that folks want to make this beef out to be like it's always two divided camps where you absolutely cannot be a fan of drake if you're a fan of Kendrick.

I mean, people consider me the biggest Drake fan on here but I've said NUMEROUS times that I started listening to Drake in 2008 and Kendrick in 2009, back when he was in his Lil Wayne era and went by K. Dot. I love everything he's dropped from Overly Dedicated up until DAMN and the only project he's ever dropped that I didn't care much for is Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers. Most of us like Kendrick's music but most of us also feel like his last album was a miss, magnified mostly because it was his first album in 5 years and he'd never missed before then. The hardcore Kendrick stans took that as some sort of personal attack.

Drake stans don't care much for people calling any one of his projects a miss because he drops very frequently and all his s*** ages well anyways.

I think what matters is that we're all hip-hop fans. Some people just love to take things too personally and make it a personality trait to hate someone (which is funny when you consider the fact that we don't know any of these niggas outside of the music they give us).

Nah don't worry he can't be one dimensional when he's going from region to region collecting all of the sounds, remember?

Funny enough I actually respect this more than anything he ever did!

As a black international artist who just made it in the US to go outside his way to unify the musical African diaspora was always what I respected most.

I aint hear none about jai paul, sneakbo or even Dave before Drake.

    That's fair.

Gonna say I disagree about the whole frequency of drops thing though. That doesn't always mean quality guaranteed. Matter fact, I've never seen this take as a thing to be considered, and my first time hearing this was from Ak. I thought it was silly when he said it.

Some people are work horses and others like to take their time with their projects. No mode is better than the other imo. I know a number of people felt shortchanged by Mr Morale. I personally liked it because a lot of the s*** hit home, but I do get it if not a lot of people dig the sound or just the songs in general.

Even if the album ends up as my least favourite, I'll respect the move, like I respect drake for pivoting toward the sounds on HNVM, although I felt the execution was lacking. Still, it's something different.

I think artists should be allowed to move however they want. Drake has never been the guy to take 3-5 years between projects. From 2006 when he dropped his first mixtape till 2024, the only years he hasn't dropped a new project of sorts were 2007, 2012, 2014 and 2024 (so far). In 2015 and 2022, he dropped 2 projects in each year. That lets you know how much of a workhorse he is. Kendrick also had stretches when he moved like that (he dropped a project every year from 2009-2012) and again from 2015-2018.

Some artists need time between projects and I don't mind it so long as the result of that time taken is something great. I'm good with Drake dropping as frequently as he does because he's never dropped a project I've hated outright. Some are better than others but for the most part, everything grows on me eventually.

Drake's going nowhere. He lost the beef but we haven't even left May yet. Let's see how much this "elimination" talk lasts when summer is over at least. Recency bias is a motherfucker.

What's funny is that the Pusha T beef was getting dragged for close to 2 years. Drake lowkey seemed more "hated" in 2019 than 2018 but he still bounced back in the 2020's and still remained the biggest rapper in the game.

And I say this as someone who's not fond of Drake's later output. I was calling Scorpion, Dark Lane, CLB, and FATD underwhelming projects before this whole beef while considering Her Loss to be a quality project(and HNVM even though I wasn't too big on the vocals).

People are living in the moment too much. The beef is boosting Kendrick up more than it is hurting Drake. FATD is still the best selling rap album of 2024.

Lol biting everything?? That’s insane if anything Drake brings awareness to dope new artists. Something a lot of artists should do more often.
