on the surface it seems to be about collectivizing under immaterial means for identity-derivative goals, but that's not actually the case, it's the inverse - "identity politics" in a modern form is always individuals taking or claiming attributes of a perceived collective in order to justify individualism or construct a worldview which fits their individualism
i think this is where stuff like "oppression olympics"comes into play. people are only claiming oppression olympics so it can justify their own behavior, it's only an illusion that its being done for whatever group theyre putting forth. kanye ironically the most transparent example of this rn
