The america which Marx would have been looking at was very literally a different country

I get the contigency argument post '65 but his optimism was unwarranted imo

good writer with a lot of meaningful writings but imo slightly overrated as the go-to intellectual vs many of his contemporaries who don't get the same flowers

TIL the "hard times create strong men, strong men create good times.." quote comes from a former bodyguard to the Saudi Royal Family lol

President Xi under the brutal neoliberal regime of Trudeau where they rather murder us than provide housing the working class of Canada is asking for you to send PLA for our liberation

Which of his contemporaries would you recommend that you don't think get as much love?

I read up on Baldwin's contemporaries after krishna's post. here's a good article about one author I'll definitely be checking out later: Charles Wright

I’m not surprised considering the lableak theory basically functioned as a red herring to redirect COVID grievances from increased human interference with wild animals and increased developmentalism, that people were predicting would cause the next viral outbreak for decades, to some epic conspiracy involving the red menace

It’s funny because that ProPublica article is based on a mistranslation of documents

as @WRU said Wright is a big one who is really not taught in schools. Ralph Ellison is another one. Some others would be Jean Toomer (who i've talked about before), Wallace Thurman, Gwendolyn Bennett, Countee Cullen and Claude McKay, George S Schuyler, and if you want a very different view of things (not necessarily correct) maybe someone like Zora Neale Hurston or Jessie Fauset.
