also using movies to 'educate' yourself on the history of the country is hilarious lowkey prime westerner with their 'consumption as way of understanding the world' mindset

must've watched them s***s like 'haha how did they fall for that' with his creased copy of 1984 on the shelf

im a film history nerd so thats my perspective. well aware that doesnt make me all knowing so im still in here cause I value others ones.

You are not making yourself out to be anything other than someone to whom my sincerity is inconsequential

You deny the value in having your morals swayed, you deny the value in bias, you deny the value in international humanism, you nestle yourself within a nationalist framework, you deny adhering to anything but the status quo yet feign some apolitical stance that places you above and removed from history.

And if you indeed wish to remain removed from history, then my sincerity is wasted on you when I intend to be a cog in a machine that brings change

    Wet. Toilet. Paper.

when did I deny the value in having my morals swayed?

what value is there in bias?

when did I deny International humanism?

when did I nestle myself in a nationalistic framework?

my apolitical stance is just that; what can I do from a small town in Canada when so many people are dying. how do I know the information im being fed isn't total bullshit? how can I have an educated opinion in this age of propaganda and misinformation? honest questions. im not an intellectual debate master by any means so give me a break please. I know my avi makes people think I'm a smug a****** but I'm just trying to learn.

I said if I was British In the 30s I would prefer a Long Knives (which targeted political rivals) over a Great Purge (which targeted a vast and vague assortment of "fifth column wreckers") and Holodmor (which starved an entire country to keep it under heel). That not defending a Nazi uprising. Thats the reality of why communism seemed so horrifying back then.

you deleted your post in the middle of my response @999Wrld so its difficult to engage with the rest of it

Sorry man I figured what’s the point you keep saying actual anti-communist lies even if it is hard to separate your bias.

I appreciate the half response. But on what you do have, the holodomor is literal Nazi propaganda.

The purges is much more nuanced and there is heavy debate even among communists over the severity or necessityof it was. However, most purged members were really just kicked out of the party. The actual number executed is much lower than western academia reports.

Without understanding the external pressures the USSR faced it is easy to then paint every action as “authoritarian” or “non authoritarian”.

USSR was probably one of the most if not the most hated country on Earth at that point in history.

if im regurgitsting anti-communist lies then why do y'all keep deleting posts and lolling at me instead of correcting me in a civil way im not trying to be rude

you must know how pervasive ani-communist lies are and should be happy anybody is wiling to get to the truth of it.

didnt realize all the information I had on Ukraine starving was from Nazi sources but ill have to look closer.

fairly certain that purged members weren't just kicked out of the party. you deny that Polina Molotova alone spent 5 years in a labour camp? and that was Stalin right hands mans woman lol.

I understand the external pressures USSR faced. other countries managed it without going full authoritarian.

yeah lol the soviets never saw a day of peaceful development. to quote Michael Parenti and his amazing book Blackshirts and Reds (highly recommend):

“Then there were the distorting effects that unremitting capitalist encirclement had upon the building of socialism. Throughout its entire seventy-three-year history of counterrevolutionary invasion, civil war, forced industrialization, Stalinist purges and deportations, Nazi conquest, cold war, and nuclear arms race, the Soviet Union did not know one day of peaceful development. In the attempt to maintain military parity with the United States, the Soviets took on crushing defense costs that seriously depleted their civilian economy. In addition, they faced monetary boycott, trade discrimination, and technological embargo from the West. The people who lived under communism endured chronic shortages, long lines, poor quality goods and services, and many other problems. They wanted a better life, and who could blame them? Without capitalist encirclement, they would have had a better chance of solving more of their internal problems.”

I’ll keep it short and honest, I’m on the border with communism and capitalism. I see both sides like Chanel. I won’t even get into it too deeply (unless yall ask).

How is okay or even remotely possible for the Castros to be worth 1 BILLION and the population to be on the brink of starvation?

Also all the Politburo and all their fancy dachas and mansions. Maybe Stalin was kind of spartan but the rest weren't.
