"Trade unionist" is referring to the consciousness and immediate demands of the workers movement, or reformism, yes.

I think what American leftists get wrong is where the main contradiction is. The main contradiction is not domestic US politics. The main contradiction is the colonized world directly throwing off the shackles of imperialism. You are seeing this now in Africa.
