I was being a bit of a downer on Zohran with some people and they didn’t like it

I think he’s gonna be DeBlasio 2, you’ll get some soft socdem reforms but nothing else

He’s also irrelevant to places outside of NYC and I think the broader post-Bernie left-populist project he’s apart of will fail like it already did the past two or three times

Though I actually do think there’s a chance for them to get executive power but I think they’ll fail just the same

There is the fact that he's a particularly skilled speaker and politician at least on the campaign trail (although getting those cab drivers debt relief is a cool thing and also didnt they do a small version of some sort of childcare thing when he was assemblyman)

I want people to not overestimate his impact by himself it was a nice moment when he won in the face of all the islamophobia and just general racism but when it comes to socialism i mean. people gotta realize hes not going to do it for u, hes just doing a bernie thing where people start talking about it again, which i think its good that its being talked about overall. best case scenario: this gets more people open to those ideas and learning more and he can get some reforms passed so it cant be painted as an abject failure like they would love to do

dsa feels closer to being able to be more of a mass party than psl but im sure theres a lot of ideological overlap if even most of the members have a developed ideology

I disagree, Zohran's campaign has already been influential with other "progressive" politicians taking notes - Katie Wilson is another self proclaimed demsoc who just won Seattle's mayoral race - and his success is being discussed around the world. The tide is turning if you can openly declare yourself a socialist (i know i know he's not actually a socialist) and speak up for Palestine yet still win in a landslide against an opponent with significantly more capital backing than you. His impact will be felt in the future, though not necessarily in a good way
