Slavery was only abolished in some northern states because Northern factory workers would be unable to compete with free labor.
The borders states that were part of the union actually got to keep their slaves even after the Emancipation Proclamation which only applied to states they left the union
White peasants in the south were the ones being ground down by competing with slavery. Factory work was in dense areas where there was already a surplus of labor to drive down wages. The north was fighting with the south over their raw materials. The reality of fighting to win the Civil War on the ground was what freed the slaves as slaves themselves marched over to the Union side and were welcomed by guys like Benjamin Butler. The military increasingly relied upon them as troops when soldiers left the frontlines towards the end of the war.
Freed slaves were then scooped back up into sharecropping in the south, to assuage the plantation aristrocrats instead of continuing the battle to upend their tyranny, or they were funneled north to further dilute the labor pool as industry expanded. It went from southern planters leveraging this underclass against white laborers to northern merchants doing the same thing. White workers and peasants did a lot of the dying themselves on the battlefields for both sides. To speak only in terms of race obscures the class dynamic entirely. It was a war for resources. The ending of slavery was a happy accident.
is this guy pretending like he doesn't know why the industrial north had an interest in changing slave labor to wage labor lol?

I agree, poor people in the south were also unable to compete. many poor people's farms in south were bought out or shutdown because they were unable to compete against free labor of aristocrats.
How are people who choose to homestead and not work an actual job viewed in socialism?

It’s a utopian and reactionary way of organizing, historically farms have been collectivized under socialism
Syn and I don’t always agree but his heart is in the right place
If I was a socialist I would consider synopsis a detriment to my ends. His manner of communicating with others is arrogant, confrontational, and an instance of the stereotype of the theory addicted communists. And he'll probably read this and think to himself, it sure is tough being so much smarter and more educated than this sxn

Well then thankfully one is more important than the latter

I doubt he acts like that in real life though at least I would hope. I think he’s pretty active in his local area. Sometimes he’ll go a bit far but most of the time he’s replying to a lad that said some absolute nonsense, so I get the condensing retort

Maybe you worded this wrong but that might be the wildest thing I read all week

probably more like 80% of people need to be on board. But idk how you would get people to do jobs no one wants to do.

so would homesteading be discouraged?
so would homesteading be discouraged?
no its encouraged
people who traditionally cannot afford / access land (minoritized groups, people in poverty, etc.) are given land.
people arent just given land for no reason though, people need to have land to grow food for the country and their community.
like the previous poster was saying, individual farming is hugely inefficient + takes so many more resources for growing food for the country, so traditionally the production + labour + ownership is collectivized .

how many jobs do people want to do, let alone be gridlocked into now?

people do a lot of jobs only because they pay well.

All land is already owned by people or governments already, how would other people be given land?
