The issue is if governments repress criticism

A socialist government outlawing private property and imprisoning people for exploitation is not a violation of rights.

'Collective leadership' is not the same as 'democratic'

Could soviet citizens vote and impact the decision making process if they werent party members? Was there a recognised opposition and diversity of thought? No there wasn't

The The USSR contained an extensive and representative Democratic system that gave every citizen a direct and organized representative share within the country
