One funny way to sidestep the guilt of being a liberal is to embrace liberalism but repackage it in radical language.

"I support the police and prisons to protect black bodies ✊️"

"I support the Iraq War to destroy the Fascistic Baath Party ✊️"

"I support Starbucks union busting campaign because higher wages for Starbucks employees would increase coffee costs for the working class ✊️"

So you become just like every other demon at your local Home Owner's Association BUT you can tell yourself you're better than them

Always thought the fetishization of farmers was very weird, it's like the one case where people confuse a sector of the economy with class, like everybody in the agricultural sector are proletarians lmfao

the absolute worst runoff behavior of this is not only trying to adopt radical language but vaguely adopt radical concepts on a surface lvel w/o dropping liberalism's massive dependence on individualism. Like "it is personally and solely that guy down the street's entire and sole fault black oppression exists because i know he voted republican in a past election". increasingly common occurrence because of social media, in fact id maybe say the existence of the behavior in its current form only really exists because of social media

Social media greatly accelerated it but the understanding of social ills like racism as nothing but the accumulation of individuals personal failings is really nothing new tbh

yeah that's true, i just more specifically meant the current iteration of who's involved, what language they use, etc. - like you mentioned breadtube like 4 posts ago so you know what i mean.

One thing about social media is everybody now feels like they have to SPEAK OUT even when it's on subjects they don't know s*** about

All those WHAT'S GOING ON IN ETHIOPIA infographics basically blaming everything on the government and not mentioning how the TPLF started the entire civil war in the first place made me wanna self defense myself Rittenhouse dababy style

Now every time there's something happening in a country i gauge the CIA involvement based on the presence of instagram infographics if max Blumenthal hasn't written an expose on the activists linkedin experience yet, pretty reliable method

Yeah definitely, even worse is when people use language generally used for social justice for their own personal lives

2016 and 2020 were the peak years of social media brainworms 2016 fr collectively melted the brain of the population, the entire anti-Trump phenomena really cemented the whole idea of armchair activism and social media signaling. It definitely existed prior (the whole youtube "anti-SJW"/new atheism/web-feminism/etc. scene was def the prototype of this), but it kinda stayed in its little slimy corner, 2016 completely exploded that to new heights and it's never gone back to normal then 2020 rolled around and that really solidified it even more, esp. the whole idea of "thing of the week" activism, it's funny how the powers that be really managed to manipulate social media well enough that it just naturally mimicked the ebb and flow of traditional media chyrons and news cycles

They ask on the visum if ur a communist or a terrorist

  • SEGA GOON

They ask on the visum if ur a communist or a terrorist

the actual reason they ask you these questions which you think who tf would answer yes (i.e. the terrorist one) is actually deceptive, it's a really scummy legal trick - if the government thinks you're a person of interest in an investigation or something, it's so they can bring you up on charges of fraud (i.e. you answered no but they think the answer is yes) if they can't actually ding you for anything else.

The good and bad thing about the online left is it has no IRL influence. So the best and s***tiest takes represent basically nobody at the end of the day.
