Question for the Maoists, are you universally opposed opposed to taking part in elections? I agree that elections are in itself never gonna be a sufficient enough means in class struggle, so I'm not an electoralist either, but could it not be part of a broader strategy depending on the conditions of the specific country?

If you got any texts or anything explaining that stance I would appreciate that too

hmm i’m not too sure on the line of elections tbh i don’t really understand the reason to be against them other than security purposes, however with my recent experiences i found most most proles or lumpen don’t vote at all and some people wouldn’t even talk to me unless i mentioned i’m against the elections or at least in my area. While the communist party of canada only organize around petty bourgeoisie locations (which is ridiculous tbh since i never seen them in the industrial or prole areas) cause they vote and in return the people that do join are just middle class folks who in return influence the party to be more revisionist since it’s disconnected from the masses, but that’s a case against misuse of elections not elections in general.

The only time i see it valid to be against elections completely is when ur building ur own dual power alongside the state or an other alternative like hold a community meeting or something on the day elections instead of voting you get the point rather than it just being a passive thing.

    I pretty much agree

I think it should be a***yzed on a case by case basis how much energy should be spent on elections, and besides the political system etc i think the masses attitudes on elections should be what that's based on

does the shift in Bernie's campaign strategy between 2016 and 2020 feel really overtly cynical to anyone else in retrospect

at the time in 2020 i remember thinking "wow this guy has completely just given up and handed his campaign to his aides rather than doing anything himself"

now that i kinda look back on it, idk, between what happened between him and clinton in 2016 and then the behavior of the campaign in 2020, it feels somehow very orchestrated (not saying its some grand conspiracy, im just saying it feels cynical retrospectively). i'm not sure exactly how to vocalize it, but it feels like the 2020 iteration of bernie's campaign was legit the final nail into the coffin of that strand of political movement. Like even a lot of e-celebs and whatnot who prior were vaguely on the left seemed like it was really the year of 2020 overall which afterwards they just dropped any and all pretenses of that type of politics or connection to such.

While that's not saying a lot in and of itself, I do feel like that was because it was reflective of the same trend happening elsewhere, esp. to some degree where everyone starting associating that style of Bernie's politics now with Breadtube/Vaush/DSA/etc. type communities instead of any form of actual labor or coalition or even just stuff like "i dont care man i just want healthcare" politics. It feels like that shift of there being at least vaguely left coalition politics with any form of mainstream appeal for not going obsessively insane on all social issues was completely destroyed within that post-2016 time period here in the US

No, I am opposed to using electoral politics as apart of any kind of strategy.

Participating in elections is merely upholding the sham that is democracy under capitalism.

Advocating to use elections as a grand strategy in the way the PSL does is useless. I was a member of the PSL and I can tell you they waste tons of resources and effort trying to get Gloria La Riva on the ballot. When they could be applying the mass line and doing real mass work.

Chairman Gonzalo stresses that those most disposed to rebel, who clamor most to organize the rebellion are the poorest masses. Non-voters are statistically the poorest masses. The most revolutionary. Organizing workers not to vote is a much more rebellious action than getting them to vote for your revisionist party.

If we look across the globe all true communist parties uphold this line as well. Communists in Brazil, Turkey, Ecuador, India and many other countries organize large election boycotts. I won't lie the Communist Party of the Philippines does flirt with bourgeois elections but they never participate.

"If you'll allow me, I'd like to say that the main thing about the elections is the need to boycott them, and if possible, prevent them. Why do we say this? What do the people have to gain? Nothing.

In the document, "Develop People's War, Serving the World Revolution" we pointed this out, we showed this to be the case and no one has disproved it. We showed how the percentage of votes for the United Left was what prevented the majority from expressing their opposition to the elections. I believe this has been shown. We have therefore put forward, and the facts have borne out, that the tendency in Peru is to expect nothing from elections or from a new government. The tendency is to reject elections. Where does the problem lie? In the way revisionism and opportunism continue promoting elections, that's where the problem lies. So what is the key point here? To strike blows and expose what the electoral process means, that it means nothing except allowing the renewal of the authorities of this old and rotting order, that it means nothing else.

Because they won't be able tell us that it means maintaining the democratic arena. This is an old story that no one is going to believe any more. This is the story that those who today belong to the United Left told us at the time of the Constituent Assembly. And then, in 1980, they said that there was democratic space, that we were in a pre-revolutionary situation, and that by using the parliament as a tribune we could go over to a revolutionary situation--only to tell us later that we had to focus on defending the existing order. I think that this is the main thing for the people, that the majority express their repudiation of the elections, even if by simply casting a blank vote, even if it is just by doing that.

This is important because that is how the will of the masses of people, the immense majority who already understand that the electoral road offers no solutions"

Nicolas was so incompetent during 1905/1906 man asked his ministers if there’s a chance of revolution breaking out when the revolution was already underway
