    Are YouTubers capitalists?

I was watching a video that explained that they weren't because they didn't exploit workers/only use technology. However, production is maintained by a force that normally would be workers that are not compensated anymore.

If I run a factor and I fire every human working an assembly line and replace them with machines, aren't I still a capitalist?

They don't own the technology so no

Well everyone is a liberal subject. Except maybe Cubans idk

You hear a lot about how "social democracy is imperialism!!!" a lot but nobody ever really elaborates. Riding the Wave is an excellent book on the subject and the author gave an interview on it so you should check it out if you don't have time ro read the entire book

im just ripping most of this from another source cuz im lazy but:

markets prices and everything else in the real world dont work exactly how the market presupposes. in many ways markets are systematically inefficient (as according to the work of robert hahnel) because real world markets are rarely truely competitive or in equilibrium. even the virtues of what should be extolled as values of markets are generally sidestepped by large monopolies that are powerful enough to ignore self-regulation and can outcompete smaller vendors in the market. manipulation of supply through arbitrary pricing, as well as hoarding and lobbying and collusion etc.

real world markets dont conform to the theoretical models in many ways and "truly free and competitive markets" are not only impossible at this stage as a result, but are actively fought against by capitalists.

if markets were supposed to be so extremely efficient, why are boom and bust cycles and over supply and constant associated severe recessions that drown millions of people into poverty, allowing bigger actors in the market to survive and monopolize even more leverage over the "fairness" of the market while the competition drowns. if markets were suppposed to be so efficient, why doesn't price and market mechanisms protect against such recessions, and when crisis strike why do the capitalists resort to non market mechanisms but rely on bailouts and pump priming. if markets were supposed to be so efficient, how come the third world countries that participate in libertarian market policies continue to economically just barely get by, while the socialist countries "interfering" in the market are doing incredibly better.

    Love the monopoly point

Everything is good but I hate that the bailout/non market part would just get tuned out as government bad, needs to stop interfering instead of seeing it as something that capitalists are clamoring for in those situations

My comrades already grave you great responses but also send your libertarian friend this meme

I wish but that would just polarize him more which wouldn't be useful for me or him

Look at the illegal d*** market. Basically all the bad stuff going on there is because it is outside the state apparatus. You can get ripped off by your plug and vice versa, anti-snitching stuff, massive distrust, turf wars....a d*** dealer can't sue you for breach of contract, a debt collector won't repo your car, a police officer won''t protect your stash, you can't be sent to jail for ripping customers off. These are all possible under a state, mostly in favor of capitalists of course.

Capitalism needs violence to enforce it and the state can institutionally and systematically produce that violence in a very subtle way. Being dragged in front of a court is also a form of violence, having a deed is a form of exclusion...

Now also take the common infrastructure all people use (water, roads, utilities), which wouldnt be possible without a state. How are you gonna build roads with a state? How will sidewalks work? Who are you gonna pay to walk on the street? Will every street have a different owner? You get into very silly scenarios in capitalism without a state.

Not to mention like 50% of R&D is done by public entities.

Not to mention the currency system.

Thank you for all of this

Definitely given me more to build into the things I was already thinking about and something I'll come back to more whenever I have more ability/better health to think about these things

Crypto wiped out,, stock market going down this a result of the Fed's hike?

    thenextrecession.wordpress.com/2022/04/18/the-inflation-debate

check out marxian economics essentially monetary policy has little to no impact on inflation and is more of a epiphenomenon while being used as justification for keeping unemployment high and maintaining the reserve army of labor.

production is the real source of inflation and the production shocks of international capital are the cause for the crashes.

"I would argue that this supply-side ‘shock’ is really a continuation of the slowdown in industrial output, international trade, business investment and real GDP growth that had already happened in 2019 before the pandemic broke. That was happening because the profitability of capitalist investment in the major economies had dropped to near historic lows, and as readers of this blog know, it is profitability that ultimately drives investment and growth in capitalist economies. If rising inflation is being driven by a weak supply-side rather than an excessively strong demand side, monetary policy won’t work."

"The other mainstream theory is that of the Keynesians. They argue that inflation arises from ‘full employment’ driving up wages and from ‘excessive demand’ when governments spend ‘too much’ in trying to revive the economy. If there is full employment, then supply cannot be increased and workers can drive up wages, forcing companies to raise prices in a wage-price spiral. So there is trade-off between the level of unemployment and prices. This trade-off can be characterised in a graphic curve, named after AW Phillips.

But the evidence of history runs against the Phillips curve as an explanation of the degree of inflation. In the 1970s, price inflation reached post-war highs, but economic growth slowed and unemployment rose. Most major economies experienced ‘stagflation’. And since the end of the Great Recession, unemployment rates in the major economies have dropped to post-war lows, but inflation has also slowed to lows. "
