You can't find one defensive operation in NATO's history. Their interventions in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya barely had any legal basis even by the standards of muh liberal international order. But yes, please tell me how leftists need to celebrate Sweden (which has helped in half of these) and Finlands decision to join a "defensive alliance"

Part of NATOs actions are intimidation though, being in NATO means their border won't be breached by an attacking Russia.
I don't support NATOs interventions but also dont think Finnish and Swedish membership will make a material difference in how NATO acts in the future. Way I see it the net result is a safe finland and sweden at the expense of further power centralizaton, which I don't like but also dont think finland and sweden are that important to NATO hegemony

It makes NATO stronger, it legitimizes NATO and its future invasions more by creating a bigger tent.

I get that being part of NATO pretty much guarantees you won't be invaded by anybody, but some things I personally just principally oppose regardless of any cost-benefit a***ysis.

Similarly to how I reject the legitimacy of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact's justification based on safety, I reject any country joining an invading imperialist military alliance based on wearing off an invasion.

Lukacs has some issues but I think his writings on class and class consciousness are generally great, or at least pose a lot of questions we need to grapple with even if he doesn’t always have the right answers
