If you want quicker, easier version, I highly recommend Meditations on Wretched of the Earth by Yaki Sayles. Wretched was one of only two books he had in prison so he studied it deeply and wrote a really easy to read summary of it (with a page/line reference system to Wretched so you can jump to exactly what he’s talking about easily). It not only makes grasping Wretched easier, but does a brilliant job of a***yzing the text and showing how it remains relevant in the present day. It is one of my top 5 favorite books ever. Really essential for communists in the 21st century imo. You can read it on its own before diving into Wretched, or read them in tandem. Either way works, it’s great as a stand-alone book itself

Sayles meant for them to be read together supposedly so I’d say definitely go for it if you’re up to it. I had already read Wretched a couple times before I discovered this book so I didn’t bother other than looking back on certain things, but I’ve lent the book to a lot of people to read it along with Wretched their first time and I’ve heard good things about that method. I’d say it depends on your learning style at the end of the day tho.
