Makes me sick seeing these trash center left soc dems (masquerading as socialists) basically condemn the protests as futile because "they wont lead to anything"

  • May 31, 2020

So who's out protesting? getting involved with some parties? I hope to see some of my Euro brothers and sisters organizing their own big-tent movements

This is the perfect time to raise class-consciousness, what better time for Socialists to be the vanguard of this revolution

@NIGHTMAN So in addition to what I mentioned earlier, I would also look into reading some lenin (What is to be Done and Imperialism, state and revolution, and marxists.org/archive/lenin/works/1913/mar/x01.htm) W.E.B. Dubois (souls of blackfolk and black reconstruction in america), look into some of the writings of malcolm and martin, angela davis.

conquest of bread, capitalist realism, reform or revolution, The Origin of Private Property.

I like to link people to this as well

    collapseofindustrialcivilization.files.wordpress.com/2014/02/cmdebook111213.pdf

It's so easy and quick to read and really provides a good overview and introduction

So reactionary is synonymous with right-wing social views, reacting to revolutionary rhetoric with ultraconservative rhetoric in response. A reactionary movement for example would be something like say, All Lives Matter.

ooh ok, think i got it. I'm guessing this is what leads to a lot of co-opting of revolutionary movements?

would you say the whole "reform police" rhetoric going on atm is a reactionary movement to the abolition movement?

absolutely, because in response to revolutionary abolition they are claiming only reform is necessary. This is undialectical, unmarxist and won't make any systemic changes, thus they are upholding a status quo.

They are transphobic, turn a blind eye to s***pests and are being very off with Prysner joining.

  • Jun 9, 2020

Smh, they always admit it after the fact (if they do), but they never learn.

I remember how livid I was while this was happening, it still pisses me off just to think about it rn

  • Jun 9, 2020

This was the most blatant case of the US fomenting a coup against a democratically elected government in years, yet the Western media heralded it as a triumph for democracy

    Makes me sick smh.

I implore you to lead your friends towards communist literature, explaining to them that abolition = communism and how this has always been our goals.

When discussing police/prison abolitionism, what do you say to the question “well what about rapists and murderers?”

Trying to convince people without a good answer there is tough 🤔

I don't know how to respond to the "rapist and murderer" part adequately but

I generally think that the prison system is set up to make a profit off of cheap labor. If you take a look at the 13th amendment, slave labor is acceptable as long as people are in prison. Therefore, if companies can get cheap labor by using prisoners, there is incentive to keep more and more people locked up for said cheap labor, even if their crimes don't fit the punishment.

This leads to unjust laws and punishment being passed off as the norm to keep for-profit prisons established. And since they're prisoners people are likely to see them as less worthy humans. Not every prison is as bad as another, necessarily, some pay their workers more, but the idea of for-profit prisons instead of rehabilitation centers and otherwise is inherently corrupt and perpetrates a f***ed up "justice" system. If one could even call it that at this rate.

Like I said, though, I don't have an argument personally for full abolition because I don't fully know what ought to replace it

The current system just perpetuates those issues first off

I'm going to post some large blocks of text. If you read all of the posts (specifically the 2nd and 3rd one, 1st if you want context) you will understand one way to refute it.
This is from my online college class.
