there used to be a job at my work where they would tell u u can't sit down till somebody pointed out the ruling that you're legally allowed to sit down to do a job if it doesn't get in the way of the job so they moved the job to a busy ass area so you can't sit down and now you're in the way of everything

I never understood why Americans thought this lmao
a lot of the urban planning bros ive seen on twitter are totally fine (and even advocate) for the mass displacement of renters and the gentrification of low income areas cuz seeing towers erected makes their d***s hard
just make it denser bro!
there are valid reasons to resist new half-baked development plans that dont make you a "nimby".
like in my city were literally nuking currently existing affordable housing units designated for renters so that we can build market rate skyscrapers next to an incoming train line - these towers are totally gonna be affordable for renters, the developers said so dude!
its transit-oriented displacement - the working class people who would benefit the most from more accessible and efficient transit options get priced out of the area and have to go f*** off somewhere else that probably has s***tier transit
thankfully more renters are becoming aware of the huge contradicting existing in the housing market. housing is a human right and should be affordable for everyone, but this is in direct opposition to the interests of developers and landlords. so the solution to affordability isnt just building more market rate housing, there needs to be a significant increase in the amount of non-market public housing stock that actually will be affordable for renters
redevelopment and densification is never targeted at single family homes either, its always directed at already dense affordable rental units and social housing. the government is way too p**** to go after landowners; renters are free game tho, at least hitherto. and these redevelopment projects obviously arent being built for the sake of tackling "affordability", its simply an investment so that developers (and then the landlords who buy up the property) can amass huge profits.
these redevelopments destroy communities and do nothing to make housing cheaper, why the f*** would I cheer them on?

That sucks man
What city you in?
Unfortunately that is the American cycle of something being moderately progressive and then being commodified into only being accessible to the rich
it depends on what type of transit. this is def true on like NYC subways and also subways in like, philly or something. some public transit like long distance trains are pretty good theyre just super expensive.
on ther other hand regardless of what city you're in, if you get on a bus instead of a train and it's past 3:30pm? this dude's gonna be sitting next to you

Lmao I've seen two dudes take a s*** on a train in Charlotte but public transit is better than driving everywhere
I love dating dumbguys™ this dude thought Adam Smith was president of the US and Karl Marx president of the Soviet Union lol he also thought the queen still ruled the UK

Vancouver, one of the most unaffordable housing markets in the world
i do want more density in the city but this shouldn't come at the expense of renters who get displaced and priced out of the area
and like i said, areas with a ton of low density single family homes are never targeted for redevelopment, its always "stigmatized" housing like purpose built rentals and social housing thats primed for redevelopment
i dont have faith in developers or "the market" to fix the affordability crisis
and also skyscrapers are lame, need some brezhnevkas

He's right
