looking at this guys twitter he seems like an asian nationalist basically half his twitter is just "western marxoids bad because they care about blacks more than asians"

also trying to make any form of concrete leftist political commentary on the LA riots

Not so fun fact the LA riots had 4 times more deaths and more arresta than during the entirety of the Hong Kong protests

my only retrospective political commentary on LA riots is basically that they became a latent ground zero for touchstones of deference of race relations by those in power and a study in the instability of the american populace
there's not gonna be a lotta value in trying to make a "marxist" a***ysis of the event w/o severe ideological bending

It wasn't a working class uprising per se, I would compare it to the BLM protests. The Korean shop owners had a long history of racism against black people despite being in black neighborhoods and that's the background for what happened then.

Well if you mean to try to make one or the other side proletarian revolutionaries and the other reactionary bourgeois sure that doesn't apply

But marxism goes further than that ofc

i just meant it more from the perspective that it def wasn't a leftist revolution (or even close to being the seeds or start of one or anything even remotely similar) and really had nothing to do with left politics at all other than the justifiable anger originating from rodney king. there's a lot of commentary to be made on the original event but not a lot to made on the riots themselves.

I think we can point out the basically negligible outcome of the riots (essentially becoming a war between different working class groups) as something that proves that issues are driven by class before race

i wouldn't compare them to the BLM riots at all

the LA riots had more justification at least in their immediacy but they basically devolved into race riots objectively that were never going to do anything but make the situation worse, and based on the post-development of LA after the fact that definitely seems to have been the case. all the "academics" who say the LA riots helped Latino/Black race relations for example are completely whitewashing the events, asian community aside, the LA riots made Latino-Black relations even worse than they already were, and that's when Latinos were much more of a minority in LA

BLM riots are a different can of worms altogether

It wasn't all just working class groups tho, Korean shopowners were petit bourgeois
