tl;dr they're taking advantage of their financial structure in order to funnel money away from traditional investments into simply buying up as much property/land as possible, which is causing a property crisis since they essentially have infinite money vs the rest of the buyer market. In many cases they're paying straight cash as they don't need access to direct credit to finance, which is causing land to spike up in value to absurd amounts. They're also looking to take advantage of the purchased land to essentially become landlords with the expectation money from rent would outpace equivalent profit from equity investments made over time especially due to projections of a bear market whereas land is seen as a stable investment relative to corporate equity.
