just gotta dig deeper to find niche stuff that appeals to you. the masses have always loved what the masses love, nothing right or wrong about that (most people don't listen to the radio for authenticity). support smaller lyrical artists if it's what you love

Never said that. Beats obviously matter most in any song but if someone values hooks over anything else how is that bad? Especially in rap now where verses arent as vital to a song being good. Thats the direction the genre went in so of course people will be more open about only caring for a good hook. In some cases a hook can elevate a solid song to a great one

nothing against a catchy hook that graps your attention and maybe keeps you listening to a song you would've otherwise skipped but only listening for hooks is not the move tho

first off, we all know that hooks matter, OP never said that hooks shouldn’t matter which is what you think he’s saying based on your previous post. What OP is articulating is that Hooks have taken over hiphop as a whole instead of the verses that have always been part of hiphop

and rap is literally inherently built on having good verses over anything else if you don’t have good verses it’s basically pop at that point there are some things that are cemented within a genre that cannot be removed from it as it progresses and develops

theres literally no point in listening to rappers who cant write good verses. might as well listen to another genre you can find melodies everywhere
