I grew up on hip-hop and R&B, but when I started socializing with Caucasians, they introduced me to the music of their culture: bluegrass. folk, rock, ska (reggae, too, which is black but which white people are really into)
I gained an appreciation for pretty much all the white greats (RHCP, Slightly Stoopid, Dylan, The Eagles, GnR, Vampire Weekend, even, eventually, Lana Del Rey). But I could never really get what was so great about Springsteen. He has like 3 good songs. Am I wrong? What am I missing? I don't have anything against factory towns and cars but I just can't really get into it
EDIT: 4 good songs
haven’t smoked a cig outside on a dock at 5.00am after working a 16hr shift ? U simply wouldn’t get it

yeah that's one of the 3
Here’s a real reply, if you don’t hear this song and immediately “get it” then you’ll never like Springsteen. If you DO like it, feel disappointed cos none of his other stuff is really like it

How dare you, my replies are real
My fault my response wasn’t even all that good
He's a man of the people. He got huge for being so relatable for the average working class/blue collar white folks.
My fault my response wasn’t even all that good
Just say sorry, shake hands and we're good

!https://youtu.be/8cNS_Mecbw8Glory Days, 57 Channels, and Born in the USA are the only ones that really do anything for me, but maybe I just haven't really given the discography a chance
Op forget what everyone else is saying itt, listen to the Born In The USA album. It’s an incredible pop-rock record
damn you were able to "get" Dylan before Springsteen? respect lol
Bruce got a few slappers tho, Darkness on the Edge of Town >>

Even the title track is good as overplayed as it is
@op f*** people saying listen to Born in the USA, its definitely not one of his best albums even though its good. maybe check out Nebraska, its waay different
im sure you heard this one but i think its his best song:
his first few albums are different style as well:

facts
If you like cinematic music that feels like it could be the verge of a victorious moment or the end of the world as you know it, listen to Born to Run. It's a massive wall of sound and it's packed with a lot of heart and glory. If you want something stark, spooky and drenched in melancholy, go for nebraska. Pay attention to the lyrics because that's what makes it even more poignant. If you want hits galore in heartland go for Born in the U.S.A. Music that will make you feel patriotic, even if you aren't American.
However, if you want stories that'll stay with you for life and characters that you will be connected to because of either relatability or empathy listen to The Ghost of Tom Joad. It's full of open-ended stories that could be twisted in countless ways. Just go in prepared because it's a number of heartbreaking tragedies ahead. I've never cared much for lyrics or story-telling in music until I got into Bruce Springsteen's discography and now he's in my top 5 and it changed my whole perception of songwriting.
