makes sense cocteau twins and is such a heavy influence on his earlier stuff. they revolutionized rock before they were 21 with garlands.

music he makes now is fine to great, but trilogy and kiss land were entire worlds to explore and get lost in. don’t get that same feeling anymore, even tho the music videos are outstanding.

i admire his attempt to balance his core audience and mass pop appeal. but by the time we hit after hours idk, it just feels like he’s regurgitating the same themes from his old work, without any of the inventive and creative qualities that make them so special.

imo MDM and After Hours def restored the feeling of creating a whole world w the music

MDM was a good start, but idk the lyrics in After Hours don't hit 4 me

i feel like i try so many times but idk mane, AH just don't hit like that for me. i struggle returning to it. i often go back, just bc i wanna give my boy abel another chance, but its been almost a year and im still not in love.

I like it cause it continues with the mixtapes cover art design, but it's all dark, and it sets the mood.

Also the fact that he put his face on it. The whole "thing" he had going on, when nobody even knew who he was, or if The Weeknd was band. Like, "you want to see my face? Here, go crazy"

And cause it fits the music.
