Discs on ps5 are not like cartridges. If you try to install the digital file on the disc but they revoke the license, it’s the exact same as digital

It’s rare in both cases which is why it basically doesn’t matter either way, so your point is moot, doubly so because in the case where it did happen with concord they refunded you

Even though you had the disc they still revoked your digital license on the disc, and then Sony just asked you to bring the disc back to the store to get a refund

Yes. It literally is. You legally don't own your game

When you buy a digital game in America, you are technically not buying the game itself. Instead, you are buying a limited license (permission) to use that software. It is closer to a permanent lease or a revocable right to play than actual property ownership.

Dude you still giving money to the big bad corporations regardless if you buy their game digitally or physical. I guess if u buy all your games second hand it’s different.
Regardless It's hyperbolic to call folks bootlickers when it's literally a matter of convenience, Now if someone is actively defending digital only market then yeah call them a bootlicker.

    That’s how discs work

You own your disc. You can literally sell, trade, and lend your game.

I didn’t ignore it. They didn’t say anything about that and then when I engaged with the points they were making they completed pivoted their argument

    What they literally said was

“ When you buy a digital game in America, you are technically not buying the game itself. Instead, you are buying a limited license (permission) to use that software. It is closer to a permanent lease or a revocable right to play than actual property ownership”

That is what a disc is now, in the modern day. They used to be games on discs, in the ps1/ps2 era. now it’s just a revokable digital license the same as a digital game

"Sure, you could argue that discs on modern consoles are practically just licenses these days, but you could still pass that ownership to someone else, without it being tied down to one specific account or console."

"Yes, PC is digital, but there's a massive difference: we can still own our games on PC. You're not trapped to one ecosystem or one digital store, you have dozens of options. Most importantly, there are tons of DRM-Free games and stores out there. Websites like GOG, Itch.io, etc. let you download and play games without being tied to any service."

Buying digital is not wrong. Buying digital and yelling hard "who cares" is wrong when people are wanting to keep physical games. Playstation and Xbox will not become steam

Y'all already did this with streaming services and Netflix.

Am I crazy or do you 100 percent own the disk if it doesn’t need to be connected to the internet to play ?

  • People still defending this idc either way but why would I go out of my way to support this

You won’t have to buy digital games from PSN anymore, they said when they announced discs ending in 2028 that stores will start selling digital ps5/ps6 games. I just bought some digital games on sale at Costco. So you’ll now have sales from retailers on digital PlayStation games.

Yes you own the disc. You can rip it to be played digital only if you want to. It's your copy of the software.
