But it's not a strength if the home that your digital collection is housed on can also be destroyed, thus having to essentially be repurchased to access

You're acting like you can play your digital games without a console

Again, your argument has no logic

If you have a physical game collection and console that are destroyed, you can’t get that back.

If you have a digital game collection and console that are destroyed, you just get a new console. You don’t lose thousands of dollars of games in one of the scenarios.

The differentiator is where the argument lies, the 2 situations are not identical

Nope. I’ve never spent $70 on a book

If you buy 10 games brand new that’s $700, gaming collections can easily become very expensive in just a few years of collecting

Most games don't appreciate in value, books are more likely to (especially comic books)

And most people are only buying five games a year anyways, people buy books at a higher rate

Books absolutely do not appreciate in value, I just took 100 books to the bookstore and they offered me a few dollars

When you buy a book it’s worth goes from $20 to like 20 cents of resale

A game maybe drops to $20 or $30 in value if it’s not a Nintendo game and not popular

The price loss in both scenarios is essentially the same

If your PS6 gets burnt up in a fire, you're still gonna have to shell out $1000 minimum to access your digital games again

If my PS5 gets burnt up, I can try to replace my physical collection buy buying cheap used copies

    You went to Half-Price Books

There are absolutely plenty of books, especially comic books, that appreciate in value as time passes

Dude you need to go to school

In both arguments you have to shell out for a new console, therefore that is not a differentiator

In one case you need to buy a console and rebuy your entire collection, in the other case you need to buy a console and that’s it

The difference is thousands of dollars

Yet you're acting like you still wouldn't be down $1000 if your console was destroyed. That's why I'm saying your point is moot. In both scenarios, you're still down a huge amount of money.

The difference is not thousands of dollars. Most people do not have games that are worth thousands of dollars years after they bought them

  • Cole2

They were charging $10+ to upgrade from ps4 to ps5 versions.

0% chance they give out a free digital copy

this is format conversion for something you already own. That was an upgrade because the games were enhanced for ps5. You could play the ps4 version on the 5.

I also don't think this precludes a disk drive for preservation and for playing 4 and 5 games.

No, in one scenario you’re down thousands of dollars more than the other

I don’t understand how you’re missing the logic of this scenario

Yes, if you buy 10 new video games that’s $700+tax

Also, can you not see how ridiculous your argument was that you needed to add some hypothetical future expensive console to try to make your point seem better?

    At LAUNCH

Those games are not worth $70 years after the fact

It's not some hypothetical future expensive console. The PS5 Pro is currently $900. You are bugging if you don't think the PS6 will be $1000 minimum
