Sophie’s death unfortunately made me hearing about her for first time ever. I saw on twitter that she had a big following in trans community and was seen as a new-gen pioneer in the pop industry.

Had to check out her music and it’s pretty dope her production was crazy! I see why people call her a pioneer. Always sad whenever we lose young talents. RIP Sophie 🕊

Vince’s tweets had me so emotional last night. seems like he really liked her, and the pic and stuff he was saying just felt so much more personal than the statements a lot of her associates/collaborators have been releasing.

Feels corny, but I’m so grateful to have come of age in the SOPHIE era. She hit the perfect intersection of experimental electronic and trap-influenced hip-hop in the early-mid 2010s. I really was at the right place at the right time.

I’ve since moved far further toward electronic and come to absolutely love her whole discography, but PRODUCT, Big Fish Theory, Vroom Vroom, etc. will always bring me back to a moment in time. I’ll always love that sound and SOPHIE was the cutting edge.

She singlehandedly redefined the snare, FM synth percussion in general really. She bridged the gap between the underground and the mainstream, between hip-hop and electronica and pop. She did it all in just under a decade.

I’ll never forget her and I’ll never stop experimenting because of her. Rest In Peace, SOPHIE. Heading over to my Model:Cycles with your work on the Monomachine in mind. Thank you for your art.
