Yeah but it created a literal sound scape in a flash that you would think they could catch up fast enough with spotify

It was just a completely different thing, more of a blog era device for regular people to post music, not intended for artists and labels like Spotify was. That was a whole new model so you couldn’t expect SoundCloud or anyone to catch up and beat Spotify and Apple at their own game once they got going
They shoulda worked with Carti, Uzi, Yachty and XXX to release through them exclusively. Obviously they wouldn’t have known that back then
I'm on Soundcloud right now.

Once they got signed there was no reason for them to post on SoundCloud anymore.
SoundCloud is more like a MySpace type of music service where indie artists can post their latest songs, but that's not where you're gonna get a big exposure and get a lot of money from streams

I wasn’t on this site when he uploaded those but I can only imagine y’all reaction when the No More Parties In LA snippet played after Real Friends

A case of what?
this era of ye randomly dropping loosies was tight i miss it
I think SoundCloud was done in by the copyright guys catching on to what was going on, and heavily restricting artists’ ability to use noncleared samples on the platform.
After you couldn’t upload classic style mixtapes over beats you didn’t own to it anymore, it just seemed like another streaming service, rather than this vital and wild audio landscape it felt like before
