I've recently become interested in Indian cinema so im looking for recommendations. Would prefer non-comedy films, but I don't care if it's a musical
Probably many peoples entry point but the films of Satyajit Ray are great. THE basic entry level choice but they’re big for a reason. Found them when I’d hear directors like Scorsese, Coppola and Wes Anderson bring him up in interviews (I believe Scorsese has also remastered/hosted some of his films for rereleases). Kurosawa was also an admirer.
His most celebrated work is a trilogy
Pather Panchali (1955), Aparajito (1956) and The World of Apu (1959).
